More Kyle Petty Quotes from California (a big thank you to Sabrina)

Sabrina said, "We were with Kyle and his team during requalifying on Saturday in the garage area and he told us, 'The only thing wrong with this track is it's not in the South'. He also asked us if it's windy every day and we told him yes, and a lot worse wind in the fall and winter months. His crew on the other hand said the garage area is really bad. They are too small." Jayski reports that Todd Bodine says he will move back up into Winston Cup(or whatever it'll be called) in 1998. Didn't mention if it would be with his current BGN team, Team 34.

Jayski also reports that one of his readers, John, heard on the "LTN Hour" (a locally produced syndicated NASCAR radio talk show), that Jack Flowers of the Speedway Scene magazine say that PPG is also a potential replacement for Winston. Supposedly PPG is in the final year of their contract with CART.

Jayski reports that Mike Wallace is seeking sponsor support to run the BGN series on his own.

Jayski reports another Geoff Bodine rumor: Dan Marino and Eddie Cheever looking to buy into Bodines team (he's not sure if it's a joint deal or separate deals).

Jayski has some great stuff today. Thanks, Jay, for allowing NASCARFANS to
report your information. We appreciate it!

Per Jayski per Winston Cup Teleconference (see Nascar Online) Robby Gordon will be racing this weekend in Daytona and Greg Sacks will not be needed.

Here is what Jayski heard about the Ernie Irvan/Yates contract: That they have in fact signed the one year deal but Texaco is kicking up a fuss. Kenny Irwin Jr is rumored for either Ernie's ride or a third team with Yates. Texaco likes his progression (like Gordon's) through USAC and want him in their future. Jayski note: Plus Irwin's sponsor on the truck series is Raybestos, who is an associate sponsor on the #28.

Jayski also reports that a fan wrote to the Hendrick organization asking about Rick's condition and got back this response: "He is in the office several days a week, in fact he was in here this morning. He is doing fine at this time and we appreciate all of your prayers and thoughts they mean a great deal at this time."

IRL driver Scott Sharp, who sustained a brain hemorrhage in a crash at the Samsonite 200 on Sunday, was reported improving on Monday but is still in serious condition. Our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family.

Concerning his "streak" of 42 races without a victory, "We're going to win," Dale Earnhardt says, convinced the No. 3 Chevrolet team's hard work will pay off. "It's a question of when."

Miscellaneous Notes

Sterling Marlin led the final 31 laps of last year's Pepsi 400 to record the victory. He has finished in the top-five, five times at the Pepsi 400 the past seven years.

Mark Martin has finished in the top-10 26 times in the last 30 races.

Jeff Gordon has won 17 times in the last 46 races, an average of a win every 2.705 races and now has 26 career wins, 17th on the all-time list.

Pole sitters have had very little luck this year, winning only three times in 15 races and averaging a finish of 11th.

David Pearson was the last driver to win back-to-back Pepsi 400's (1972-74).
