Kevin Harvick holds off a hard-charging Jeff Gordon, on the final lap, to capture his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory in only his third start. Harvick's win was the first win for Richard Childress Racing after the passing of Dale Earnhardt. The finish to the 2001 Cracker Barrel Old Country Store 500 was only .006 seconds. Jeff Gordon would take the points lead after this race.
