Buescher up front late to take win in Michigan 200

The No. 31 Turner Scott Motorsports Chevrolet of James Buescher wasn't up front for most of the 100-lap Michigan National Guard 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn on Saturday, but he was in position to take the lead when the No. 51 Kyle Busch Motorsports Toyota of Kyle Busch got loose with four laps to go.

Busch's slip resulted in Buescher, the reigning series champion, claiming his first win of 2013.

"I knew yesterday, we had a shot," Buescher said. "But early today, it was tough. We couldn't catch any breaks."

Busch, who led most of the late-race laps had to settle for his four second-place Truck Series finish at MIS. He is winless at the track.

"I don't know; the Toyota Tundra was really fast today," Busch said. "I don't know where Buescher came from."

Busch barely came away with his second-place finish. He crossed the start/finish line under the checkered flag with the No. 3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet of Ty Dillon right beside him. Following Dillon was the No. 19 Brad Keselowski Racing Ford of Joey Logano and the No. 32 Turner Scott Motorsports Chevrolet of Miguel Paludo in fourth and fifth.

After starting on the pole, the No. 4 Turner Scott Motorsports Chevrolet of Jeb Burton led most of the early laps. Busch took the lead from Burton for a short time on a restart following a lap-26 caution, but Burton quickly retook the spot. Busch moved back into the lead on lap 45.

Paludo used a two-tire pit strategy during a caution with 36 laps to go to get off pit road ahead of Busch and restart with the lead. He was able to maintain the lead for awhile, as Logano got by Busch for second. Busch moved back into the second spot a few laps later and then retook the lead from Paludo on the next restart that followed a caution with 26 laps remaining.

Busch continued the lead until Buescher quietly made his way toward the front to take advantage of Busch's late-race miscue.

The race included seven cautions, with three of those coming in the first 26 laps. The yellow flag was utilized early, with the first caution coming out on lap one with the No. 29 Brad Keselowski Racing Ford of Ryan Blaney spun and hit the inside retaining wall after contact with the No. 54 Kyle Busch Motorsports Toyota of Darrell Wallace Jr.

"From my perspective, it just looked like the No. 54 turned left on us and wrecked us," Blaney said.

Afterward, Wallace accepted responsibility for the incident. Wallace was caught up in the third caution of the race on lap 26 when the No. 8 Sharp-Gallaher Racing Chevrolet of Max Gresham spun and collected Wallace and the No. 98 ThorSport Racing Toyota of Johnny Sauter.
