David Starr excited for return to Trucks at Talladega

MOORESVILLE, NC – October 16, 2013 – David Starr has been away from the track since Bristol in August leaving him chomping at the bit to get back behind the wheel of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series No. 81 Toyota Tundra this weekend in at the Talladega Superspeedway.

The absence from racing has been the longest in Starr’s sixteen-year NASCAR racing career and he will return to the No. 81 Toyota with the support of Build Your Future (BYF) and Steely Lumber Company. “I’m looking forward to getting back to the race track, it’s been challenging and tough to lay out for over a month. I’ve been racing in NASCAR for over sixteen years and running a partial schedule has been a difficult adjustment for me. The competitive fire is just burning inside me and I just can’t wait to race.”

“I’m very fortunate to have great partners like BYF and Steely Lumber Company on board with us. This race or any race we do would not be possible without great partners,” continued Starr. “I can’t say enough about these companies and what they stand for and the quality of companies they are and I am just glad to be able to race for them, and I can’t thank them enough.”

“Talladega is always just so intense, it’s so exciting and you never know how the race is going to come out until you come out of turn four and head down that main straightaway. I’m so excited to race this week at Talledega that I can hardly sleep at night!” BYF is working to spread the word about rewarding construction career opportunities by naming October 2013 “Careers in Construction Month.” To celebrate, several local contractors and educators will join BYF and David for the race on Saturday. David Starr will be representing Build Your Future (BYF) at Gadsden City High School in Gadsden, AL on Thursday, October 17. He will be speaking to the automotive, electronic, electrical, and HVAC-R students about the importance of Career and Technical Education and how it impacted his life. He also speaks to the vast opportunities for students in the construction (and automotive) industry once they complete their education. The students will have an opportunity to interact with David and see his race truck on display. “David is a great spokesperson for Build Your Future. Being a product of Career and Technical Education himself, he can speak directly to the value of this type of education and training and he relates extremely well to the students,” says Diane Greene, executive director of NCCER’s Build Your Future initiative.

The Fred’s 250 Powered by Coca-Cola is the 309th consecutive NCWTS start for the SS Green Light Racing team and the 315th career start for Starr in the Truck Series. Chris Cockrum will be behind the wheel of the Advanced Communications Group No. 07 for SS Green Light Racing.

“It’s going to be exciting, especially when you’re sitting where I’m sitting inside the BYF/Steely Lumber Toyota,” David concluded. “I’m going to have a big old smile on my face going around the track.”
