Greg Biffle Fined After Las Vegas

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Sept. 27, 1999) Greg Biffle will keep his win from Friday's race at Las Vegas. NASCAR officials announced Monday that they have taken 120 championship points away from driver Greg Biffle and levied a $48,860 penalty against Randy Goss, crew chief for the No. 50 Grainger Ford, following Friday's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series The Orleans 250 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Goss' penalty, the difference between first- and 36th-place money in the event, was the result of an unapproved intake manifold found by NASCAR officials in post-race inspection following the event.

The team will retain the race victory but will lose the points, which add up to the difference between first and 36th places. In the race for the championship, Biffle now leads Jack Sprague by only 10 points. Sprague, who finished runner-up in the Orleans 250, won the championship in 1997.

Goss' actions were deemed in violation of Section 12, Rule 4, Article A and Article Q in the 1999 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Rule Book: Actions detrimental to automobile racing, and: Use of parts that do not conform to NASCAR rules, respectively.

Biffle will keep his record-breaking ninth victory in the series, while Ford has clinched the manufacturer's championship for the first time in the five-year history of the series.

There are three remaining races on the series schedule for 1999: The Kroger 225 at Louisville Motor Speedway on Oct. 8, the Bluebonnet 300K at Texas Motor Speedway on Oct. 15 and the NAPA Auto Parts 200 at California Speedway on Oct. 30.

Jack Roush has said that he will appeal the fines.
