Cameron Hayley informed the NASCAR universe on Thursday that he would no longer be driving in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series with ThorSport in 2017.
“I’m really thankful for the opportunity Duke and Rhonda Thorson gave me driving for ThorSport Racing the past two seasons,” said Hayley. “I’m looking at other opportunities to drive this season if we can find partners to go with us.”
Hayley has 49 career starts in the NCWTS with 46 coming with the No. 13 team, based in Sandusky, Ohio. He finished with 10 top-five and 26 top-10 finishes during that span.
Even if his search for a new ride pays off and he finds sponsors to come on board, it’ll be with another team.
“I won’t be going back to ThorSport Racing this season so if we can put something together it will be with another team,” Hayley added. “I know there are some good teams out there still looking to put deals together with drivers.”
The former NASCAR Next driver from Calgary, Alberta, Canada hopes to stay in United States and compete this season in NASCAR. However, if he decides to move back home, he’ll keep all options open.
“If I can’t put something together I’ll probably go back home and work with the family business,” Hayley said. “I hope to be able to race in NASCAR this year.”
Hayley also said if the right opportunity came along, he might compete in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series in Canada if nothing develops with a NASCAR national series opportunity.
He last competed in that division back in 2013, scoring two top-10 finishes in as many starts.
