Cummins 200 July 30, 1998 Claremont, Indiana Scot Walters/Red Man Racing Notes

* It is back home again in Indiana for Scot Walters and the Red Man/Brewco Motorsports team. Although Brewco Motorsports is based in Central City, Kentucky and Scot Walters grew up in Louisville, Kentucky the team's ties to the state of Indiana and deep rooted.

For crew chief Terry Shirley and crewmembers Schaan Lamaster and Jerry Meloncamp those ties are more than just a racing history in Indiana. Each of them calls Seymour, Indiana home. But the association does not stop there, fabricator, Dean Howard along with Shirley and Walters have all raced and won at many of the famed short tracks of Southern Indiana.

Walters began his racing career at such places as the Sportsdrome in Jefferson, Indiana where he was track champion in 1986. He then moved on to be a multi race winner at Salem Speedway in Salem, Indiana. He also claimed his first victory on the NASCAR Slim Jim All Pro Series at Winchester Speedway in Winchester, Indiana.

"Indiana has been very good to me," said Walters. "I have had some great times at different tracks around the area, and have to say that much of my success now can be traced back to Southern Indiana."

Terry Shirley's career has included many Indiana highlights such as driving at Indianapolis Raceway Park in the early to mid 70's, and after that, owning cars that raced just about every short track there is in Indiana. His most recent Indiana racing moments came in 1996 and 1997 when he serving as crew chief to Marcus Racing and Sabco Racing at the Brickyard 400 NASCAR Winston Cup Race.

"I've had some great times racing at places like IRP, Salem, Winchester, and Indianapolis," said Shirley. "I think I have either driven, owned, or worked on a car at just about every place in Indiana you can possible race." * Scot Walters and the Red Man/Brewco Motorsports team recorded their second Cintas Rookie of the Race Award in three events when they recorded a 12th place finish at Pikes Peak International Speedway this past week.

"We have known all along we just needed time to learn," said Walters. "The team is starting to come together, and I think the finishes at Nazareth and Pikes Peak are a product of the hard work this whole team has put in all season. We've had a very up and down year but for a first year team I'm very pleased with what we have accomplished. We just need to keep doing what we've been doing and the good finishes will come." * Low Bob's Discount Tobacco Town is the associate sponsor on the No. 37 Red Man Chevrolet for The Cummins 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Indianapolis Raceway Park in Claremont, Indiana. The chain operates 75 stores in Indiana and Ohio.
