Larry Foyt Returns to the Cockpit at Talladega Superspeedway

HOUSTON (Oct. 26, 2010)--Why is Larry Foyt is so motivated these days?

A.) He is back in the cockpit racing at Talladega this weekend.

B.) He is working with his AJ Foyt Racing team on a great 2011 IndyCar season.

C.) He met Doug Hanson, one of the country's top motivational speakers.

D.) All of the above.

The answer is D--all of the above.

Taking a respite from his duties as Team Director at A.J. Foyt Racing, Foyt returns to the cockpit to drive the No. 01 DougHanson.com Chevy truck in the Mountain Dew 250 at Talladega Superspeedway in Talladega, Ala. Saturday afternoon. Daisy Ramirez Motorsports, a first year team in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, will field the truck for Foyt.

"Now that our Indy car season is over, this opportunity presented itself and I thought there's no better way for me to have a fun weekend than to race a truck at Talladega," Foyt said.

The race marks Foyt's fourth appearance in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in as many years but it will be his first time at Talladega in a truck, although he has competed at the 2.66-mile track in both the Sprint and Nationwide Series. Back in a race truck for the first time since February 2009, Foyt is not concerned about the 18-month layoff.

"In my situation, I'm going back to a place where I did a ton of testing for Evernham and I have a lot of laps there," Foyt said. "Plus I really enjoy racing the superspeedways--they're a lot of fun because of the drafting. I have watched a couple truck races a little more closely lately so that I can recognize most of the trucks and know who I'm going to be racing with. That's really important knowing who to draft with and who not to. I'm looking forward to it. I've got a lot of friends in NASCAR so I hope to go down and have an enjoyable, competitive weekend and come out with a good finish."

Prior to arriving in Talladega, Foyt will be making a stop in Tampa Bay, FL Wednesday night to attend a fundraiser at Busch Gardens for the "Pink and Blue for Two" cancer awareness campaign. Hosted by entertainer Olivia Newton-John, the event will raise funds for both breast and prostate cancer research, and to link the striking similarities between the two cancers.
