Larson claims his first truck win at Rockingham

Kyle Larson kept his No. 30 Turner Scott Motorsports Chevrolet out front for most of the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Rockingham (N.C.) Speedway on Sunday and held off the No. 19 Brad Keselowski Racing Ford of Joey Logano on a green-white-checker restart to claim his first win in the series.

"This is really special," Larson said in victory lane.

The win came in Larson's fifth Truck Series start and 11th start, overall, across NASCAR's three national series.

Logano finished second, and Brendan Gaughan got by the No. 98 ThorSport Racing Toyota of Johnny Sauter in the final two laps to finish third in the No. 62 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet. Sauter wound up fourth. Chase Elliott drove the No. 94 Turner Scott Motorsports/Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet to a fifth-place finish in his second-career start in the series.

Larson took the lead on lap 19 and led the remainder of the race, with the exception of one lap being led by Sauter just after a restart that followed a caution with 22 laps to go. Early in the race, Larson's competition up front came from Gaughan, but Gaughan was unable to keep up with Larson. By the time the second caution of the race came out for debris on lap 63, Larson had built up a lead of nearly 12 seconds over Gaughan.

The No. 3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet of Ty Dillon got off pit road ahead of Gaughan during the caution to restart second, but like Gaughan, he didn't seem to have anything for Larson. On lap 104, Matt Crafton took over second in the No. 88 ThorSport Racing Toyota, but like those before him, he was unable to overtake Larson.

Crafton retook second on pit road during a caution that came out on lap 143 and held on to the spot until Gaughan reclaimed the spot with 49 to go. Meanwhile, Larson continued his dominance up front.

A few laps later, Sauter moved into second after overcoming losing spots on pit road multiple times. He was able to get in front of Larson long enough on a restart to lead a lap, but Larson soon got back in front.

As Larson led the way late in the race, Logano was quickly moving up through the field on newer tires after going a lap down earlier in the race and getting that lap back. He made his way up to second with 10 laps to go, and was gaining on Larson when the seventh and final caution of the race came out with three laps to go. The final caution resulted in a green-white-checker, two-lap sprint to the finish with Larson and Logano starting side-by-side.

"I was definitely worried," Larson said of Logano. "I could see him getting closer and closer in the mirror."

Larson was able to hold off Logano to take his first-career win.

"I just got beat," Logano said. "I was expecting him to do something different on the restart, and he didn't do it. I spun my tires."

During the final caution, the No. 9 NTS Motorsports Chevrolet of Ron Hornaday made contact with the No. 54 Kyle Busch Motorsports Toyota of Darrell Wallace Jr. NASCAR viewed the contact as intentional and sent Hornaday to the back of the field for the restart, and he was called to the NASCAR hauler at the end of the race.

"He just flat out wrecks us," Wallace said. "Just turned us. It's unfortunate."
