Just three short months after NASCAR Camping World Truck Series rookie John King was open top of the world, he now finds himself on the outside looking in.
King, who came from deep in the field to take a surprise victory at the season-opening Truck race at Daytona, was sidelined today as Red Horse Racing announced the team will suspend operations of the No. 7 team, effective immediately.
A team press release said that the suspension was due to a lack of sponsorship funding, although the team will continue to operate the No. 17 entry driven by Timothy Peters and the No. 11 entry driven by Todd Bodine.
King came from the 23rd starting spot in his Toyota Tundra to get in position for his maiden victory, then survived three green-white-checker finishes to score the win. He followed that with a ninth-place run at Martinsville, but had two DNFs in the next three races, including a Lap 24 crash last weekend at Charlotte.
Calls to the race shop for comment were not answered.
