Richard Childress Racing teammates finished 6th and 29th

Despite leading for a large portion of the 100-lap affair, Ty Dillon and the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops team finished sixth in the first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race of the season at Daytona International Speedway.

Crew chief Marcus Richmond utilized routine two-tire pit stops to maintain track position, until the final pit stop of the night on lap 64 when the Welcome, N.C.-based team took fuel only. With multiple other teams opting to stay on the racing surface, Dillon lined up in the seventh position for the ensuing restart. Using the draft, the 20-year-old driver maintained a position within the top 10.

With five laps remaining, Dillon maneuvered his way to fourth and began making a charge to the front of the pack, when an incident on the final lap broke out behind him bringing out the yellow flag.

The caution froze the field, leaving Dillon and the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops team with a sixth-place finish.

Ty Dilon (Start - 5, Finish - 6, Laps Led - 56, Points - 4): "Overall, I'm happy with our finish tonight. To be able to leave Daytona (International Speedway) with your truck all in one piece is always a good night.

The No. 3 Bass Pro Shops team worked hard this week getting the truck ready for the race. We were fast and led a lot of laps. We're putting the right foot forward and starting off the season right."

Mid-Race accident relegates Gaughan to a 29th-place result at Daytona International Speedway

Brendan Gaughan and the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet team were relegated to a 29th-place finish following a mid-race, multi-truck accident during the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season opener at Daytona International Speedway Friday night.

The Las Vegas native started the 250-mile affair from the 15th position and was shuffled throughout the field, as the team struggled to find a compatible drafting partner.

While vying for position within the top 10, Gaughan was caught between two of his fellow competitors creating a multi-truck accident that sent the Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet to the garage for repairs. Gaughan returned to the track 20 laps down from the leader.

As the final laps ticked away, the veteran driver made several visits to pit road allowing the team to make additional repairs. Despite a valiant effort by the team, Gaughan crossed the finish line 29th, 26 laps off of the lead lap.

Following the first race of the season, Gaughan sits 28th in the Camping World Truck Series driver championship point standings.

It was my fault that we got into trouble tonight, but the South Point Hotel & Casino crew put in a lot of effort and never gave up. It wasn't the resulted I wanted, but we were able to finish the race."
