Hornaday's NAPA truck has new look for 1999

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Jan. 14, 1999) Two-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion Ron Hornaday will have a new look for his No. 16 NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet Silverado truck this season, beginning with the March 20 Florida Dodge Dealers 400 at the Miami-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex.

Tuesday evening at Dale Earnhardt, Inc. (DEI), home of Hornaday's team as well as defending NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division champion Dale Earnhardt Jr. and NASCAR Winston Cup Series driver Steve Park, the truck was unveiled for over 150 members of the media during a stop on the annual Charlotte Motor Speedway Media Tour presented by UAW-GM Motorsports.

Hornaday drove the No. 16 blue and gold NAPA Chevy onto the black marble floor of the new DEI facility where the media was assembled to give them a look at his 1999 ride.

This year the truck will carry NAPA Auto Parts sponsorship for the first time. In the past, NAPA Brakes has adorned the winning Chevy. NAPA Brakes remains as an associate sponsor. The truck will again carry the familiar NAPA blue and gold colors, but the paint scheme has changed.

Also new this season is the truck itself. Chevrolet has retired the C/K 1500 full size pick up and will campaign the Silverado.

"I like the new look of the NAPA Chevy," Hornaday said. "We made changes to the look without taking away from the basic design that people have become familiar with. The Silverado is a great looking truck. We have already tested the new body style and I think it will pick up where last year's truck left off. The Silverado with the new paint job looks fast standing still."

The media had a chance to spend time with Hornaday and the other drivers in the DEI stable, including owner Dale Earnhardt.

There was also an opportunity for Hornaday and new NAPA crew chief Sandy Jones to discuss their plans for the upcoming season, which includes running in the NAPA Auto Parts 300 NASCAR Busch Series race at Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 13. This will be Hornaday's first time competing at the 2.5-mile "World Center of Racing."

Hornaday will run a No. 31 Chevrolet Monte Carlo sponsored by NAPA Auto Parts and Action Performance Companies out of the DEI stables.

Hornaday is the all-time win leader on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series with 23. He has over $2.4 million in series winnings.
