Sauter Recovers to Finish Second at Texas

Ft. Worth, Tex. (November 5, 2010) -- After dropping from the lead after running low on fuel during a long green flag run, Johnny Sauter recovered to finish a determined second in the WinStar World Casino 350 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Texas Motor Speedway on Friday night.

Sauter led from lap 61 through lap 91, passing Kyle Busch on the racetrack to take over the top spot. Sauter stretched out the advantage but suddenly slowed through turns one and two when the fuel cell ran dry. He coasted over a mile without power back to pit road, losing precious ground to the leaders still running at 180 miles per hour around the 1.5-mile tri-oval. Quick service on pit road got the No. 13 FarmPaint.com/Curb Records Chevrolet back on track and the field quickly cycled through a round of green flag stops. When everyone had come down pit road for service Sauter was fourth, directly behind ThorSport Racing teammate Matt Crafton, but nearly 10 seconds behind leader Todd Bodine.

A caution for a spin in turn two by Lance Fenton on lap 122 was exactly what Sauter needed. He lined up inside row two on the restart and quickly tucked in behind Kyle Busch and looked to have a truck that could again challenge for the lead. But Busch caught a few breaks in traffic and slowly stretched out his advantage to 0.386 seconds at the finish. It's the second consecutive second-place finish at Texas Motor Speedway for Sauter, who also finished runner-up to Todd Bodine at TMS in June. Overall, it was Sauter's 12th top-five finish and 14th top-ten result of the season.

"We just ran out of fuel," Sauter said. "The upside of it is we had the dominant truck here tonight. We passed Busch on the track for the lead and we held them all off. We needed a caution to get the track position we lost after that stop and I couldn't believe we got it. We had a shot at the end but it's still frustrating. I'm really proud of everyone at ThorSport Racing for the effort they're putting in, but I'm disappointed for everyone at FarmPaint.com and Curb Records and for Duke and Rhonda Thorson that we didn't get them a win here tonight."

Sauter remains third in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship standings, now 74 points behind second-place Aric Almirola with two races yet to run in the 2010 season. He has a 104-point advantage over Crafton in fourth.

Next up for Johnny Sauter and the No. 13 FarmPaint.com/Curb Records Chevrolet is the Lucas Oil 150 at Phoenix International Raceway on Friday November 12. The race will be shown live on SPEED starting with a 30-minute pre-race show at 7:30 P.M. Eastern. The race can also be heard live on select affiliates of the MRN Radio network nationwide and on Sirius NASCAR Radio Channel 128.
