Todd Bodine gets top 6 finish at Daytona

Red Horse Racing press release

DAYTONA, Fla. (February 24, 2012) --- Two-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion Todd Bodine was prepared to capture his third victory at the famed Daytona International Speedway on Friday night in the No. 11 Good Sam Roadside Assistance Toyota Tundra. The Red Horse Racing (RHR) driver qualified in the 10th spot for the NextEra Energy Resources 250 and charged his way towards the front of the pack in the beginning stages of the race.

Paired with crew chief Rick Gay, Bodine made his first pit stop of the evening when the first caution was waved for an accident in turn four on Lap 18 - for a fuel only stop. odine and Gay's strategy was to stay in front of the pack for as much of the race as possible. They did just that and quickly moved into the top-five on the restart. By Lap 34 Bodine was paired up with teammate Timothy Peters drafting in the eighth and ninth place respectively.

When the second caution-flag fell for debris on Lap 43, Gay called his driver to pit road for four tires and fuel. The green-flag flew once again on Lap 46 with Bodine in the 19th-position. The caution-flag was displayed for the fourth time on Lap 63 for an accident on the frontstretch. Not being able to make the distance on fuel, Bodine brought the Good Sam Roadside Assistance Tundra to pit road to top off with Sunoco racing fuel. The veteran driver took the green on Lap 68 from the 15th position and moved up four spots when the fifth caution-flag was displayed for an accident in turn four on Lap 85.

The team stayed out on track to maintain track position and took the green in the eighth place on Lap 90. As the laps wound down, the intensity increased and the RHR teammates began pushing one another for position. Bodine was sitting third when the field was halted once again for a caution on Lap 95.

The field went back racing on Lap 99 resulting in a green-white-checkered finish. On the Lap 101 restart, Bodine settled into position to push teammate John King. The field was brought under red flag conditions on Lap 105 for an accident on the frontstretch. With heavy cleanup, the team discussed its final strategies.

Bodine was sitting in second place beside King when the field took the third and final attempt at a green-white-checkered finish. The Good Sam Roadside Assistance Tundra did not get the early push it needed and therefore lost track position on the outside line, but was gaining positions as the final caution waved in the 109-Lap event crossing the finish line in the sixth place.

Comments from the driver: "I am so happy for John King and everybody at Red Horse Racing. These past two months the guys have worked their tails off to get all three of these speedway trucks primed and ready to go. We should've had all three in the top-three but I just couldn't get going on the restart.

"I tried to side draft him and it didn't work. I am so happy for this team. Everybody at Good Sam Roadside Assistance - I really appreciate that they have come on board. I hope they had fun and got some great coverage. Red Horse Racing is a great race team - Tom DeLoach deserves to be in Victory Lane."
