BUSCH: Biffle wins scorcher at Milwaukee

West Allis, WI-- In what was an overwhelmingly hot day for both crews and drivers, Greg Biffle and his Roush Racing No. 60 team outlasted the heat to win their second race of the season after dominating 168 laps.

With the win, polesitter Biffle became the first driver to repeat a win on the one-mile track. When the green flag dropped, temperatures were in the lower nineties and the heat index well over 100 degrees. Biffle explained how he won under the hot Milwaukee sun. "I'm really overheating. The guys did a great job, we didn't have the fastest car today. Six engine failures and only 28 of the 43 cars were running at race's end.It was pretty hot today. I had the guys giving me bottles of water."

Biffle wasn't the only one overheating. Numerous teams were mixing up their crews after members suffered heat exhaustion. After finishing fourth Ron Hornaday, driver of the No. 26, was pulled from his car and taken to an ambulance due to his heat fatigue.

Jason Keller followed Biffle most of the race and drove his No. 57 Ford home to a second place finish. A worn out Keller said after the race, "we had a really great racecar today, just came up second. But not really disappointed."

Biffle and Keller both picked up a spot in the overall driver standings following Sunday's event.

Wisconsin native Bill Davis Racing's Scott Wimmer tied his career best third place run at his homestate track. Wimmer's Pontiac lead Biffle's Ford with 19 to go when a caution flag flew after Brian Vickers, who had brought out the race's first caution earlier in the day, met the wall yet again. Biffle past Wimmer on the restart.

Driving for BACE Motorsports, Tony Raines in the No. 33 ran strong all day and finished an impressive fifth. But his fifth place run didn't come so easy. Early in the event Raines was involved in an accident on pit road with points leader Jack Sprague. The Hendrick Motorsports driver, Sprague, ended the day one lap down in the 14th spot. He remains atop the points by 46 over Biffle.

Raybestos Rookie of the Year points leader, ppc's Scott Riggs, had problems early on when on lap 73 his engine let go. He lost two spots in the points, from second to fourth. Riggs was one of six drivers who lost an engine during the 250-mile event. In the end, only 28 of the 43 cars that started the race were running.

Innovative Motorsports' Shane Hmiel was the highest finishing rookie in the No. 47. Hmiel roughed it up all race long and drove his battered machine to a sixth place finish. Bobby Hamilton Jr, Mike McLaughlin, Tim Sauter and Randy LaJoie closed out the top-10.
