PLATTENBERGER JOINS NO. 58 TEAM

MOORESVILLE, NC. - Two weeks after announcing Akins Motorsports merger with Glynn Motorsports on the No. 58 team, more changes are taking place. The newly formed No. 58 Glynn Motorsports team announces Steve Plattenberger will be the crew chief for the No. 58 Serta Mattress/Hickory Farms Dodge Charger driven by Busch Series Raybestos Rookie-of-the-Year contender Brent Sherman, effective immediately.

"Having Steve Plattenberger on our team is the right move for us. We're excited to have someone of his caliber join our team and we're looking forward to a successful year," said Glynn Motorsports owner Scott Glynn.

"Steve is coming on board at a time when Brent and the team need consistency. I'm confident he's the right person to lead this team."

Most recently Steve Plattenberger served as crew chief for the FitzBradshaw No. 12 team with driver Tim Fedewa. He joined the FitzBradshaw Racing team towards the end of the 2004 season.

"The move to Glynn Motorsports is a great opportunity for me," Plattenberger said. "I'm really looking forward to working with these guys-- I've known some of them for a long time. This is a great organization to work for, and I'm very excited for the chance to join this growing team."

Driver Brent Sherman is glad the position has finally been filled. After parting ways with former crew chief Tony Lambert after Daytona, the No. 58 Serta Mattress/Hickory Farms team worked with interim crew chiefs Mark Green and Ken Davis.

"I met Steve last weekend in Nashville and I think we'll work well together," said Sherman. "I've worked with four different crew chiefs in only eight Busch Series starts. Through all the crew chief changes I've learned how important it is to find one you can work with. Steve's experience will be good for me and for the team."

Plattenberger's first race with the No. 58 team will be the Sharpie Professional 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway

"I had the chance to meet the team last weekend in Nashville and this is a hard working group of guys," Plattenberger said.

With a new crew chief on board, and a short track in his near future, Brent Sherman knows this team is ready for a good finish.

"I really think we deserve one", Sherman said. "We've worked hard and come up short every week. We haven't had much luck on the intermediate tracks so far this year. I'm looking forward to getting back to a short track, I've finished pretty well on them in the past."

In 2004, Sherman posted three top-five, one top-10 finish and a Pork Pole on the ARCA/REMAX Series short track circuit.

This will be Sherman's first start at the 0.533-mile oval. The green flag drops on the Sharpie Professional 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday, April 2, at 2:05 p.m. EST. FOX and PRN Radio will broadcast the race live.
