DESCRIPTION: GOODYEAR EAGLE RADIAL LEFT - D5646 RIGHT - D5632 LEFT SIDE CIRCUMFERENCE: 87.4 in. RIGHT SIDE CIRCUMFERENCE: 88.6 in.

NOTES AND QUOTES: "We have made a slight construction change to the left side tires for the Fontana NASCAR Busch Grand National race," said Mark Keto, Goodyear's NASCAR BGN engineer. "This change was made to improve cornering. Construction of the right side tires remains the same as used in last year's event.

"We have developed a tougher right side compound compared to last year's tire," Keto continued. "The left side compound is substantially the same used previously at California Speedway. This set-up has already raced this year at Texas and Charlotte on the BGN cars.

"We usually see long green flag runs at Fontana so fuel mileage can be more significant than tire wear as we saw in last year's race," Keto went on to explain. "We could see many teams utilizing two-tire pit stops changing right side tires only to gain track position. Fontana is very easy on tires and there is very little give-up seen."

"The tires we had last year at Fontana were great," said Matt Kenseth, third place finisher in the 1997 California race. "We ran a complete fuel run on the first set, came in changed only the right side tires and ran a complete fuel run again. Tire performance was flawless which allowed us to gain good track position by having a shorter pit stop. Knowing the effort Goodyear puts into there tire development, I look for us to have the same or even better tire wear this year. Hopefully we will make the right moves to get to victory lane this year."
