Fred Bickford has resigned as co-owner of DF2 Motorsports, the team announced on Saturday. Bickford sites family reasons for stepping down from the team. The news comes on the heels of the announcement of a partnership between the team and Winston Cup Crew Chief Tony Furr. The team is on-track to compete full-time in the NASCAR Busch Series in 2003, and the announcement will have no effect on those plans. Partner Danny Bost joined the team in 2002 and will continue that partnership now with Furr in the 2003 season.

"It is with great regret that I am resigning from DF2 Motorsports. I am proud to have been a partner to Danny Bost and a member of the Busch Grand National Series. I will greatly miss everyone on the Busch circuit and the many friends I have come to think about as family," said Bickford. "When you spend 34 weekends a year with people, you get to know their children spouses, and families. Their lives become part of your own, and you share triumphs and tragedy with one another. I would like to thank all the people along the way that helped build our team. When I first started out, CRD Engine Development helped us out a bunch, and I am very grateful to them. I also would like to thank NASCAR for being patient with me during my learning period, and for going beyond the call of duty providing us with direction toward developing our team. I wish everyone a safe and successful 2003 season, and may God bless each and every team."

Bickford has been a member of the racing community for a long time. He chose the number 94 because it always held a special meaning to him. When he began his racing career on the New England Motorcross Circuit he rode the number 498. His numbers have been a variation of that ever since. "I have been racing all my life, and I am really going to miss going with this 94 team every week." Bickford says "I always tell my guys just before the green flag that 'this is something we are, not something we do. Let's go racing.' And I believe that it is true for all us racers, from hobby stocks to Winston Cup."
