Winston Cup regular Jeff Burton grabbed the pole and the win after leading most of the race.
With Burton's win a runaway, the Busch guys found other ways to make news of their own. On Friday, the 54 team fired driver Kelly Denton and called in Kevin Grubb to take over behind the wheel. Grubb had been left minus a ride after Brewco Motorsports replaced him in the No. 37 with longtime BGN veteran Jeff Purvis. In his debut in the 54, Grubb finished the race 41st.
And for the second week in row rookie Shane Hmiel was involved in a wreck after starting the race 43rd. Hmiel was set to start in the top 20, but was forced to the pits to fix a loose oil line, forcing him to the back of the pack. After making his way through the field he got turned around late in the race by Jack Sprague, and backed the car into the wall, causing rear end damage.
Sprague's teammate Ricky Hendrick was involved in a wreck with Tony Raines and after hard contact with the wall, Hendrick suffered a dislocated shoulder.
Another rookie, Scott Riggs, seemed to be Burton's only threat. While leading with 65 to go, Riggs' car let go and he parked it behind the wall to change the battery.
After pit stops, Burton surrendered the lead to Casey Mears who was leading with less than 20 to go. Needing to pit himself, Mears gave up the lead and after pit stops, the lead circled around with Burton once again at the head of the field.
Burton's win gives Brad Parrott his first win as a crew chief.
