Slim Jim and Labontes Reunite for Busch Series

Raleigh, NC (August 12, 1998) - Slim Jim Meat Snacks is pleased to announce a multi-year NASCAR Busch Series sponsorship agreement with Labonte Racing, Inc. Slim Jim Monte Carlos will be entered in all the races on the 1999 Busch Series schedule with drivers Terry Labonte, Bobby Labonte, and Justin Labonte.

"I'll probably drive a majority of the races with help from Bobby and Justin," said Terry Labonte, a two time Winston Cup champion. "We won't be able to figure out exactly how this will all work out until the release of the 1999 Winston Cup and Busch Series schedules. But we think that among the three of us, we can run them all."

"Our goal for 1999 is to build the Slim Jim team to championship caliber to be ready for Justin to take over in the future."

Justin Labonte, Terry's 17 year old son, is currently competing in the Hooters ProCup Series where after twelve 1998 races he is third in drivers' points, only 139 points from first. He has led 103 laps and has two Top Five and nine Top Ten finishes competing against many drivers with Busch Series experience. For the past three years Justin has been racing under the tutelage of his grandfather, Bob Labonte who helped develop the successful careers of Terry and Bobby.

"I've been very impressed with Justin's progress this year, he had a chance to win five of his last six races," said Terry. "He is coming along much quicker than we had anticipated. I've tested with him three times and he was faster than me twice."

The Slim Jim and Penrose brands of GoodMark Foods, Inc. have had sponsorship involvement with the Labonte family every year since 1990. Bobby drove for Penrose for the 1990 and 1991 seasons, winning the Busch Series championship in 1991. He made his Winston Cup debut running two races in Slim Jim sponsored cars in 1991. The Busch Series sponsorship was changed to Slim Jim for Bobby in 1992, and continued with Bobby Labonte Racing with driver David Green through 1995. Green won the Busch Series championship with Slim Jim in 1994. In 1996, Slim Jim sponsored Justin in mini-stock races at Ace Speedway and in the Summer Shoot Out Series at Charlotte Motor Speedway where he won the championship in his division. For 1997, Justin again drove for Slim Jim competing in mini-stocks at Ace Speedway, winning the championship and at Concord Motorsport Park, where he finished second in points.

This year Justin has been sponsored by Penrose and Racing Champions in the USAR Hooters ProCup Series.

"We at Slim Jim are happy to further extend our business relationship with the Labonte family," said George Stewart, Senior Marketing Manager for Slim Jim. "It is a pleasure to work with a family that have the same personal passion for excellence in their business that we bring to ours. It has been a source of pride at Slim Jim to have been involved with Bobby in the early stages of his career and we are thrilled to have a similar
