OAKWOOD HOMES CONTINUES 'RACIN' SELLABRATION' PROMOTION AT HOME TRACK

CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- Oakwood Homes has hit the NASCAR scene full force in 1998. Their 'Racin' Sellabration' promotion kicked off in June when Ken Schrader debuted the No. 15 Oakwood Homes Andy Petree Racing Chevrolet at Richmond International Raceway in the NASCAR Busch Series. Oakwood Homes, headquartered in Greensboro, N.C., will continue the celebration at their home track, Charlotte Motor Speedway. "We are very excited about the success our racing promotions have brought to our sales centers," said Jim Steinmeyer, Sr. V.P. of Marketing. "Our first 'Racin' Sellabration' promotional kick-off generated tremendous excitement across the country and allowed us to set a new industry record with the number of applications taken in one weekend. Now we are thrilled that we can bring part of the celebration right to our home track." From Wednesday, September 30 through Sunday, October 4, Oakwood Homes will have on display at Charlotte Motor Speedway the 44-foot Racin' Sellabration Dream Home. The special edition home features a racing themed room with furniture designed exclusively for this home. Items include a victory lane bed, lamp and framed photos of Ken Schrader and the Oakwood Homes transporter. In November, Oakwood Homes will giveaway a Family Dream Home. People can register to win at an Oakwood Homes sales center. On Monday, November 16, Oakwood Homes has reserved Charlotte Motor Speedway to participate in the Richard Petty Driving Experience. Ten winners will be brought to Charlotte Motor Speedway to spend the day with Ken Schrader and experience driving a race car. People can enter to win by filling out a form at an Oakwood Homes sales center and mailing it in.

Although Oakwood Homes became a primary sponsor on the NASCAR Busch Series for the first time in 1998, they have had ties to racing since the 1980s. They were title sponsor for the "Oakwood Homes 500," the NASCAR Winston Cup event held at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Ken Schrader began his affiliation with the organization in 1986 when he was introduced to some representatives from Oakwood Homes. During his second full season on the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, Oakwood gave him a single-wide home and in exchange, Schrader made personal appearances at sales centers. The Schraders lived in the 14 X 76 single-wide home from 1986 until 1988. Eventually, Oakwood Homes decided they wanted to become further involved in racing and made another deal, exchanging his single-wide for a double-wide. "I've been doing stuff with the people at Oakwood Homes forever," said Schrader. "Since our initial involvement in 1986, we have formed a strong working relationship and more importantly, a friendship that I hope will last for many years to come. I am thrilled about the 'Racin' Sellabration' and that they are now a primary sponsor. I could not think of a better company to represent. We plan to do all we can to reward them with performance in exchange for all they have done for me personally." Oakwood Homes Corporation, founded in 1946, is a fully integrated housing company that manufactures, retails and finances factory-built homes in a 28-state region stretching from coast to coast. Headquartered in Greensboro, N.C., Oakwood Homes sells more homes than any other retailer and is the third largest manufacturer in the industry. Oakwood Homes has more than 380 retail sales centers, 27 plants and more than 10,000 employees nationwide. Oakwood Homes is listed under the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol OH.
