DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.--The Stanley Works Corporation, headquartered in New Britain, Conn., is compiling a year-long promotion around the concept of 'Make Something Great.' The Stanley Racing team will take part in the promotion through NASCAR Busch Series competition. The No. 36 Stanley Racing Team will pursue the NASCAR Busch Series Championship in 1999 with driver Tim Fedewa. "We are involving all aspects of Stanley in this promotion," said Scott Bannell, director of advertising and marketing for The Stanley Works. "Our Stanley Racing Team is a proven commodity for Stanley. With the changes we made this year, we feel we are ready to incorporate the race team into our 'Make Something Great' marketing effort." Stanley and Cicci-Welliver Racing brought Fedewa on board to pilot the No. 36 Stanley Racing Pontiac to a win. Fedewa has been to victory lane more than once in his career. He has three NASCAR Busch Series wins as well as 15 top-five and 39 top-10 finishes. Fedewa, along with new crew chief Vic Kangas, are looking to win races. "My main goal is to win races," said Fedewa. "Running for the championship is our goal, but I want to win and go to victory lane. That is where the hard work pays off. That is the fun part. If you win races, the championship will come. "I feel very confident with the car that I will be driving. This car has run at Daytona before. It is a proven car for Cicci-Welliver Racing." The Stanley Racing Team received its first taste of Daytona International Speedway in 1999 when they tested there in January. The team spent two days testing and aside from some dismal weather, everything else was bright. The team felt confident with the way the performance of No. 36 Stanley Pontiac. "The test in January is really your first indicator," said Clyde McLeod, team manager for Cicci-Welliver Racing. "We went there and we were strong and fast off the truck, which is a great feeling. We have worked with this particular car here before and we know how is runs here. That is our baseline and it is a plus to know where to start from and then build from there. Tim and Vic communicate well and that is half the battle, because if the driver can't explain what is going on and how the car runs, the crew chief does not know what to fix." When the announcer states the most famous words in motorsports, 'start your engines,' and the green flag drops at Daytona International Speedway on February 13, 1999, the kickoff to a great championship season will begin.
