Mike Swaim Jr.'s NASCAR Goody's Dash Series resume is now complete.

The High Point, N.C., native and defending series champion, Swaim Jr. fullfiled a lifelong dream Friday afternoon by winning the Discount Auto Parts 200 at Daytona International Speedway.

It was a green-white-checkered finish following a three-lap caution beginning on lap 77 of the 80-lap event, when Ernie Yarborough, Roger Nance Jr. and Mickey York got together. The race was actually red flagged for nearly two minutes for cleanup on the backstretch.

On the restart, Swaim Jr's No. 28 Pennzoil Pontiac was able to pull away from the field, and he eventually won the race by a margin of 1.405 seconds over Robert Huffman.

Swaim's father, Mike Swaim Sr., was a four-time winner at Daytona, including three in a row from 1984 to 1986. Swaim Sr. is also a two-time former NASCAR Goody's Dash Series champion and won the Discount Auto Parts 200 from the pole in 1994, the last series driver to do so at Daytona.

The Bud polesitter, Swaim Jr. led the first 14 laps, regained the lead from laps 16 to 20, but played catchup until finally regaining the lead for good from Huffman on lap 53.

Darryl Murray led twice for 23 laps, but got shuffled back in the pack late in the race and wound up finishing sixth.

Doc Brewer finished third, followed by Ricky Bryant, Danny Bagwell, Murray, Derrick Kelly, Junior Miller, Chris Hall and Christian Elder.

The victory was the 10th career NASCAR Goody's Dash Series triumph for Swaim Jr. during his three-year-plus stint in the division. Swaim Jr. has plans to run anywhere between 10 and 15 NASCAR Goody's Dash Series races this season, as well as a limited ARCA Bondo/Mar-Hyde schedule.
