BUSCH: Team Rensi tests at Darlington

Darlington, SC (November 20, 2000)Team Rensi Motorsports entered Darlington Raceway in full force on November 15, 2000, prepared to test two trucks with Randy Tolsma and David Donohue.

"We brought the entire team to Darlington," stated Sam Rensi co-owner of Team Rensi Motorsports. "We've brought all of our drivers, the engineering department, and numerous others to try and figure out how to tame the track which is known as the track `too tough to tame'. We have full telemetry, data acquisition, multiple monitoring points and much more. The technology that we have available to us this day and age is intriguing and we are hoping to gain a great deal of information during these two test dates."

Kenny Wallace, who will drive for Team Rensi in an abbreviated Busch Series schedule with Tony Lambert as Crew Chief, was on site with Team Rensi to provide insight on the best way to get around Darlington without getting into trouble. Kenny spent numerous hours with Randy and David explaining his past experiences and thoughts on the 1.366 egg-shaped oval where he posted an 11th place finish in the #25 Lance Snacks Team Rensi Chevrolet this past September. Kenny's advice paid off because not long after Randy and David were turning extremely competitive laps under the direction of Crew Chief Craig Huartson and Crew Chief Walter Giles respectively.

Randy Tolsma adapts easily and has the capability of establishing methods of maneuvering around a track instantaneously and that is why Tolsma is a perfect fit for Team Rensi's multi-program operation. Randy is not a stranger to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series because this 2000 season alone Randy scored 1 Win, 6 top-5's, and 15 top-10's in 24 starts allowing him to finish 8th in the 2000 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Standings. Team Rensi believes that Randy will be a top contender for the championship in 2001 with the #16 Team Rensi Chevrolet.

David Donohue is fairly new to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and he is ready to hit the ground running bringing with him a rich tradition in racing. He is the son of Mark Donohue, who was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of fame in 1990 for numerous achievements in racing. His father was noted for being a two-time USRRC Champion, a three-time SCCA Trans-Am Champion, a Can-Am Champion, winner of the 24 Hours of Daytona, the Indianapolis 500 and a NASCAR Winston Cup race in California among other things.

Chad Chaffin, who will drive the Busch Series #25 Chevrolet, has Kenny Wallace as a teammate who brings a wealth of knowledge to the Series and Greg Ely as Crew Chief whose guidance provided Team Rensi with a strong eighth place finish in Busch Series Owners Points Standings. Chaffin was given the opportunity to drive the NASCAR Busch Series No. 77 Lear/UAW Ford this 2000 season. Chaffin appeared to have a shot at his first NASCAR Busch Series win at Nashville Speedway USA in the No. 77 Lear/UAW Ford until contact was made between his car and another sending him spinning into Turn 4. Chaffin's past consists of a two-time track champion at historic Nashville Speedway USA. He claimed the honors in 1993, and again in 1995. He picked up 15 wins in 25 starts at Nashville in 1995, finishing eighth in the NASCAR Winston Racing Series Eastern Seaboard standings. Chaffin's 39 career wins at Nashville tie him for fifth on the facility's all-time win list with four-time track champ Coo-Coo Marlin, father of NASCAR Winston Cup Series star Sterling Marlin.

Team Rensi Motorsports numerous entries in the Busch Series and Craftsman Truck Series has given the organization depth and structure to compete amongst the best of both Series. Ed and Sam, owners of Team Rensi, are continuing to progress forward in their endeavors and they desire to add a Winston Cup team to their portfolio. Next year they are planning to enter a select few Winston Cup events and envision they will position a full-time team in the Series in the near future. The teams will be housed in a 52,000 square ft. state-of-the-art facility, which is being built in Concord, North Carolina. At the present time, the operation is located in Charlotte, North Carolina.
