Todd Bodine South Boston Speedway NASCAR Busch Series Notes

On South Boston: Although Father's Day will be a week away, Todd Bodine hopes to celebrate early with a win this weekend in the Textilease Medique 300 at South Boston Speedway. The driver of the Phillips 66 Chevy has competed in six events at the .4-mile oval, securing his lone win at the facility in 1996. In addition to his win, Bodine has one pole, two top-five and five top-10 finishes. Bodine has performed well on the short tracks this season with fifth-place finishes at both Nashville and Bristol and a fourth-place finish at Richmond. Bodine looks to improve his performance on the short-tracks by winning at South Boston this weekend.

"South Boston is probably one of the nicest tracks of its size in the country," Bodine said. "It's not a difficult facility to compete at, but 33 Busch cars on that track is a lot of traffic. There's really not a lot of room for passing. Everybody tends to run on the bottom of the racetrack and you try to get under someone else going into the turns and then make the pass on the straightaways. You really don't pass anybody at South Boston, you out position them."

Crew chief Donnie Richeson says position is everything at South Boston as the teams will make pit stops during the competition cautions at laps 100 and 200. Teams will have five laps to make adjustments to the cars. Richeson says that leaves a lot of work up to the driver.

"The cars are impounded by NASCAR after qualifying so you want to have a car that's prepared to go the distance when you qualify," Richeson said. "All the other teams will be doing the same thing. We have plenty of time to make adjustments because of the competition caution so if things aren't exactly right during the first 100 laps you really have time to make it right in the pits. Track position, however, is definitely key at South Boston."

Equipment: The car Bodine will compete with this weekend in South Boston is "Fido." "Fido" is the same car Bodine finished fourth with earlier this season at Richmond.

Last Weekend in Dover: Bodine posted a season-best third-place finish last weekend at Dover. After starting 17th, Bodine worked his way to the front and climbed as high as second place before finishing third, securing his fifth top-five finish of the 1999 Busch Series season.

$2 Million Man: With his third-place finish last weekend in Dover, Bodine topped the $2 million mark in career NASCAR Busch Series earnings. Bodine is just the fifth driver in the history of the series to accomplish this feat.

Bodine Favorite: Bodine's favorite type of cookie is chocolate chip.
