This Week in Ford Racing

NASCAR Nationwide Series Rookie Colin Braun, driver of the No. 16 Con-way Freight Ford Fusion, returns to the race track this weekend during the Kansas Lottery 300 at Kansas Speedway. After having a few weeks off, Braun talks about his excitement to get back in his Fusion and how his schedule has been this season.

TALK ABOUT YOUR NEXT RACE. "We're racing Kansas next with our No. 16 Con-way Freight Ford Fusion and I'm really excited about it. I've had some pretty good results in Kansas. It's been a really cool race track to race at for me and the Roush- Fenway cars always run good on the mile and a half. I'm sure it will be no different this weekend."

WITH THE WAY YOUR RACE SCHEDULE HAS BEEN DOES IT BREAK YOUR RYTHYM AS A DRIVER? "It definitely makes it challenging when you're on a couple of weeks, and off a couple of weeks compared to the guys that are racing every single week. We had a good run in the summer months with some pretty good and consistent finishes when we were racing back-to-back every weekend. Certainly racing sparsely is a challenge and to get that smoothness throughout the whole team, even working with the crew chief when you have different drivers makes it a challenge. I feel like the relationship that I have with Rick Viers is really good. We work well together so I know it's nothing that we can't handle, but it definitely makes it tough."

DOESN'T IT MAKE IT EASIER TOO, SINCE YOU CAN FOCUS MORE ON INDIVIDUAL RACES INSTEAD OF JUMPING FROM TRACK TO TRACK? "Yes, in that respect it does make it a little easier for me as a driver. For the guys who do the grunt of the developing work and the thinking about what they're going to do at this next track, and there's so much information that they have to process every week whether I'm driving or Matt Kenseth or Erik Darnell is driving, the guys still have to do the same amount of work. For me, I guess it makes it a little bit easier because I can focus on one race track, but for those guys they're racing every week no matter who's driving. It's certainly a challenge for them."

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO ABOUT RACING AT KANSAS? "I'm just looking forward to getting back in the car. This is the longest part of the season that I'll be out, with the two or three races that I missed coupled with the off-week. It seems like it's been forever."

WHAT'S YOUR SCHEDULE FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON? "I'm in five of the last seven races. I'm excited about that. After Kansas we go to California and have Charlotte back-to-back so those three weekends are going to be really good for us. I feel really comfortable about going to those three tracks. I feel like we had a really good result in the new Mustang that we raced at Michigan so we're really excited to go race that in Charlotte in front of the hometown fans."

DO YOU HAVE ANY GOALS OR EXPECTATIONS OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF RACES? "It's important for us to run really well. We're trying to get back into the top 15 in owner points. Obviously we're not in this thing for the championship, so it's important for us to run good and try to get that Ford Mustang and Ford Fusion back in the top."

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE DURING YOUR OFF WEEKS? "During the off-week for the series I got to come out to Charlotte for the drag races with Bob Tasca III's NHRA Funny Car Mustang group and watch what goes on with these guys and the way they race. It's pretty awesome. It's really unique in the way they race in some respects but it's also very much the same in what we do every week. Getting to talk with the crew chief Chris Cunningham about how they keep records and look back at notes and things like that, it's really similar to the way we do things. It's neat to come out and see a different aspect of what Ford Racing is about."

WILL WE SEE COLIN BRAUN IN A FUNNY CAR? "I don't think so. Not anytime soon any way. It's crazy what those guys do. Talking to Bob [Tasca] about how they lose their vision and when the tires shake and all that when they're driving these cars, I couldn't imagine not being able to see where I'm going. That's pretty crazy."
