NASCAR issues penalties for Phoenix infractions
Erik Jones, the second-place finisher in last weekend’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Phoenix, has been penalized after his car failed post-race inspection.
NASCAR on Wednesday fined Jones’ crew chief, Chris Gabehart, $5,000 after the No. 20 Toyota failed the post-race inspection run through the laser inspection system (LIS).
In addition, three Sprint Cup Series teams – those of Landon Cassill, Martin Truex Jr. and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. – all received written warnings.
Cassill’s team received a warning for failing pre-qualifying template inspection twice. Truex’s team received a warning for failing pre-race LIS inspection twice. These were the second warnings received by each team this season.
Stenhouse’s team received a warning for failing pre-race LIS inspection three times and will also lose 15 minutes of practice time this weekend at Auto Club Speedway.
Spencer Gallagher’s No. 21 Chevrolet in the Xfinity Series also received a warning for failing pre-race LIS inspection three times and also loses 15 minutes of practice time this weekend.
