Robert Richardson, Jr. ready for Friday night racing under the lights at Richmond
CHINA GROVE, N.C. (September 6, 2011) – When it comes to competing under the lights on a Friday night in the fall, the one person you don’t have to motivate is NASCAR driver Robert Richardson, Jr.
Growing up playing quarterback for his McKinney High School team in McKinney, Texas, Richardson still loves the lure of the lights on a Friday night. He’ll get to show his competitive prowess during the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at the .75-mile, short-track action of Richmond International Raceway this weekend.
When the series last visited RIR in the spring, Richardson left there with his best finish of the 2011 season. This weekend, he and the No. 23 North Texas Pipe Chevrolet team have high hopes to better that mark.
Robert Richardson, Jr. Quotes: “If there is one thing I love do under the lights on a Friday night is compete. In my high school quarterbacking days, all of our games were played under the lights on a Friday night. With football season ramped up on all levels now, it brings back great memories for me.
“When we get to racing at Richmond this Friday, you get a sense the fans are into it, too, because of the reactions we get in intros and such. I know I like racing for them on Friday nights, so we’re going to do our best to put on a good show for them.
“We were pretty good here in the spring and I know we can do better than what we did last time with all we’ve learned since then. Towards the end of the race, we were running very strong as the laps wound down. This time, we just need to be better in the early going and get better as we go along.”
