Richmond II: Hermie Sadler race report

HERMIE SADLER FINISHES 36TH AT RICHMOND

RICHMOND, Virg. (September 12, 2010) -- Making just his second Nationwide Series start since 2004, Hermie Sadler finished 36th in the Virginia 529 College Savings 250 at Richmond International Raceway Friday night. Sadler surrendered two laps to the leaders over the first 100 laps and then was penalized for speeding entering pit road on lap 111. After serving his pass through penalty the veteran driver found himself on a lap of his own for the majority of the second half of the race. The Virginia native shook off the early rust to run top-10 lap times over the last 50 laps but due to his early misfortunes was only able to gain one position in the scoring despite passing several cars on the track.

"I wish we could've hit the reset button about half way through the race because after a few adjustments we had a good car for the second half of the race," said Sadler. "I'd like to thank Baker Curb Racing for this opportunity and Virginia Commonwealth University Athletics, the VCU Center for Sport Leadership, CruiseOne and Getloaded for their support."

Sadler started the race from the 39th position and had made his way up to 36th when the second caution of the race occurred on lap 35. He communicated to crew chief John Reese that his No. 27 VCU Athletics/CruiseOne Ford Mustang was free entering and exiting the corners. Reese elected to remain on the track and the veteran driver was scored in the 24th position when the race restarted on lap 41.

Shortly after the race went back to green flag conditions, Sadler slipped up the track into the rubbish and dirtied his tires. By the time he cleaned his tires and fell back in line he had fell to the 36th position. As the race continued under green flag conditions Kevin Harvick made his way past Sadler on lap 66 and once again on lap 100.

Reese called Sadler down pit road on lap 111 and the Baker Curb Racing crew put four fresh tires, made trackbar and air pressure adjustments and filled the No. 27 VCU Athletics/CruiseOne Ford Mustang with fuel. Shortly after returning to the track, Sadler was given the black flag for speeding entering the pits and had to come back down pit road to serve a pass through penalty. When the veteran returned to the track he was scored in the 37th position five laps behind the leader.

The NASCAR Nationwide Series takes a week off before heading to Dover International Speedway for the Dover 200 on September 25th. Rookie Drew Herring, who finished 15th in his Nationwide Series debut at Iowa Speedway, will make his second start behind the wheel of Baker Curb Racing's No. 27 Ford Fusion.
