Gallagher’s team, GMS Racing, announced Thursday it would compete in the Xfinity Series full-time next season with Gallagher and he will continue to drive the No. 23, which he has raced since 2006 in honor of former NASCAR driver T.J. Clark and his son, Spencer.
“I made my Xfinity debut this year and we learned a lot as an organization,” Gallagher, 27, said in a statement. “Though I have raced against some of these drivers, I know the competition is going to be much more competitive so I need to be focused and on my ‘A’ game all year.
“For next year, my plan is to continue and grow this program, be consistent and make the Chase.”
Gallagher, a native of Las Vegas, has been with GMS since 2014, first competing in the ARCA series (when he won one race) and most recently in Trucks. This season in Trucks, he won two poles and had one top-five and eight top-10 finishes and ended up 12th in the series standings.
Gallagher competed in seven Xfinity races in 2016 with a best finish of eighth in the July race at Daytona.
Sponsorship details and Gallagher’s crew chief will be announced at a later date.
GMS Racing won its first Truck series championship this season with Johnny Sauter, who was in his first season competing with the organization.
