Big Diamond Raceway September dates

Minersville, PA (Aug. 24)- In an effort to make their NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Modified competitors eligible for the WRS Northeast Region title, Big Diamond Raceway has extended the point season for the modifieds through events in September. Although local high school football historically puts a bite in the Friday night crowds at Big Diamond, the Friday night rains throughout the season are forcing the track's hand.

At this point the track has confirmed that they will be racing on Friday night, September 7 featuring the NASCAR WRS Modifieds, Silver Spring Super Sportsman and Roadrunners. West Side Wood Products/Dark 'n Go Tanning Salon of Hamburg, PA will return to sponsor this event that was rescheduled from August 3 due to rain.

The CPI ratings used by NASCAR to determine the final standings in their Weekly Racing Series Regions of all track champions in the region, as well as those for the National Championship of all the regional champions, are based on 18 events. If drivers do not complete in 18 races at the track they represent, their performance averages are decreased because they are divided by 18 races rather than the actual number in which they compete.

With all the rain-outs this season, Big Diamond has run 16 events for the modifieds through August 24. The Coal Cracker 100 is not a point race so that leaves two more races to be run to achieve 18 races. The September 7th date would make 17.

No decision has been made at this point as to if an additional event will be scheduled and what divisions might be included with the NASCAR Modifieds but the speedway has notified NASCAR that an event could be scheduled for September 14 with a September 16 rain date if sponsorship can be obtained for the event.

The NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Modified and NASCAR Roadrunner points will run through the final event of the season (with the exception of the Coal Cracker 100). This will be no later than September 16 as that is the official ending date NASCAR has assigned for all NASCAR Weekly Racing Series point events at all NASCAR tracks.
