Big Diamond Raceway Enters 35th Season of Auto Racing

Minersville, PA -- January 10, 2005 -- Officials at Big Diamond Raceway in Minersville, PA released their 2005 schedule and once again the track will again host the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Modifieds, Sportsman Modifieds and Roadrunners on a weekly basis in 2005. In addition to the strong weekly competition as part of the track's 35th year of racing, there will be a fair share of special events, not only featuring the weekly trio of divisions, but also the 600 cc. Modifieds, KARS 358 Sprints, 270 cc and 600 cc Micro Sprints, 410 Sprints and URC 360 Sprints.

The 2005 season will be kicked-off with the Big Diamond Pre-Season Car Show. The show will be held at a new site this year, the Schuylkill Mall in Frackville, PA, from March 6 through 12. As usual, the show will include the annual Tire Changing Competition and Georgie Stevenson Memorial Auction as well as displaying cars from all of Big Diamond's racing divisions and a few others.

The annual high point of the racing season at Big Diamond Raceway is the Coal Cracker National 100 for Modifieds will shift back to Friday night, September 2; this season with the former Sunday date (September 4) will be used as a rain date.

Likewise the annual Hoover Chevrolet Championship 50 for Sportsman Modifieds has also been moved from September back to Friday night, August 26, Hoover Chevrolet / GM Performance Parts will again sponsor the events as well as a series of five qualifying feature events at the track on May 20, July 1, and July 29.

The Station House "Four Crazy Eights" will return for the roadrunners courtesy of the Station House Restaurant and Bar in Llewellyn, PA.

Following a special open practice day on Saturday afternoon, March 19, Big Diamond's 2005 season will open with a special Micro-Sprint National Open for the 270cc and the 600cc Micro Sprints with the 600cc Modifieds making their first ever appearance at the track. These three divisions will bookend the Diamond 2005 schedule as they are also set for Saturday afternoon, September 24th.

The NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Modifieds, Sportsman Modifieds and Roadrunners will kick off their Big Diamond racing season with Sunday afternoon racing on April 3 at 2 PM and April 10 at 4 PM. The format moves to the weekly Friday action on April 15 with a 7:30 starting time. The starting time moves to the usual 8 PM green flag on May 6 for the remainder of the year.

The annual Georgie Stevenson Memorial will also move back to Friday in 2005 on July 1 with a Sunday, July 3 rain date. The Modifieds will go in Twin-20 lap features while the Sportsman Modifieds will run in a regular main event carrying a Hoover Chevy Sportsman 50 qualifying spot. The roadrunners will round out the card.

The 600 cc Modifieds will make their first appearances at Big Diamond Raceway with six dates in 2005. The cars appear to be small, high-speed replicas of the modifieds and sportsman modifieds that run weekly at Big Diamond powered by 600 cc engines. Former URC Sprint driver, Doug Borger, is the organizer of this division and it is expected that several of the track's modified teams will want to get in on this act with the cars carrying an $8500 price tag, ready to race. They can be seen at www.xcelchassis.com.

The KARS 358 Sprints will be back with appearances on April 29, May 27 and August 19. The URC Sprints will be on hand on July 22 and the 410 Sprints will be at Big Diamond on Tuesday, June 28, as part of Cindy Rowe PA Sprint Speedweek.
