DOUG HOFFMAN CONTINUES RUN FOR BIG DIAMOND NASCAR TITLE WITH WIN

Minersville, PA -- August 12 -- Defending track champion Doug Hoffman of Allentown, PA and the Dennis Eisenhard/Klinger Motorsports #77 Modified Tem are hitting their stride at just the right time as he used his fourth Big Diamond Raceway NASCAR Dodge Racing Series Modified feature win of the year to grow his point lead to 125 points with only two point races remaining in the season over Duane Howard of Oley, PA, on Kreiser Race Fuels Night Friday.

Doug Hendrick of Orwigsburg, PA had never won a Sportsman Modified race until July 15. He must have enjoyed it as Friday he took his third win in a month at Big Diamond. Jake Smulley of Phoenix Park, PA got back on track to take his second Roadrunner feature win while Tom Martocci of Kunkeltown, PA took his second 600cc Modified win.

The car has been good but we were just a bit off," commented Doug Hoffman in the winner's circle on the B&I Auto Supply / Jim Sprout Excavating / Kerry Hertzog Auto Sales #77 team's recent performances. "But this crew is great. They kept working at it and the car tonight was perfect. They made it easy for me to drive."

Doug started 14th and overtook Sean Merkel (Gilbertsville, PA) on lap 10 to take the win. Dave Dissinger (Mohrsville, PA) led the first six laps before Merkel moved on the point. Jeff Strunk (Bethel, PA) took second to Hoffman in the final rundown followed by Ray Swinehart (Bechtelsville, PA), Doug Manmiller (Wyomissing, PA), Keith Hoffman (Whitehall, PA), Jeff Sechrist (Wernersville, PA), Duane Howard, Sean Merkel, Meme DeSantis (Temple, PA) and Rick Laubach (Richlandtown, PA).

In the Sportsman Modifieds, since getting sponsorship support from Pioneer Pole Buildings, Doug Hendricks has been on a tear. Milford, NJ rookie, Mike Taylor led the opening three laps before Hendricks charged from his 12th starting spot to the points. Hendricks took his third win of his career and his third in 29 days over defending track champion, Tom Brennan of Pottsville, PA, who edged into the 2005 point lead by 5 points over Gary Wagner, Jr. of Womelsdorf, PA with the performance. Third was Ryan Grim (Laurys Station, PA) followed by Andy Miller (Schuylkill Haven, PA), Gary Wagner, Jr., Ryan Moyer (Schuylkill Haven, PA), Luke Wagner (Grantville, PA), Cory Renninger (Llewellyn, PA), Don Miller (Northampton, PA) and Kevin Nolf (Nazareth, PA).

Jake Smulley took the roadrunner season opener on April 10 but was shutout until this week as he captured his second feature win of the year. Eric Pinkerton (Tower City, PA) led the first nine laps but it was Smulley, who started eighth, took charge on lap 10. Tom Hablett (Schuylkill Haven, PA) finished second trailed across the finish line by Pinkerton, Jeremy Becker (Forestville, PA) and Kevin Holland (Pine Grove, PA).

Tom Martocci would be looking at a Big Diamond season sweep if not for a rules violation in the first 600 Modified appearance of the season. Martocci dominated a short field of 600s, leading wire-to-wire, to take his second win over Jay Von Doren. Adam Swatw, Jeff Hazard and K.J. Gardner.

Qualifying heat wins went to Meme DeSantis, Bobby Gunther Walsh (Allentown, PA), and Sean Merkel in the Modifieds; Rob Gibson (Schuylkill Haven, PA), Ryan Moyer and Andy Miller in the Sportsman Modifieds; Eric Pinkerton and Kevin Holland in the Roadrunners; and K. J. Gardner in the 600cc Modifieds.

Next Friday, August 19, will mark the first time in more than 30 years that midget auto racing has rocked Forestville, PA, as the American Racing Drivers Club (ARDC) invades the Big Diamond Raceway. Over 30-years ago, under the direction of Ed Darrell, the midgets came to Big Diamond with Wayne Woodward capturing the only midget event ever run at the track.

Joining the weekly menu of NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Modifieds, Sportsman-Modifieds, and Roadrunners, the ARDC Midgets will sling some clay in wingless fashion. The midgets will compete in twin 20-lap features. There will not be any qualifying races for the ARDC contingent, just flat-out, broad sliding mayhem in the twin 20's.
