Minersville, PA - (Feb. 17) - The annual Big Diamond Raceway Car Show will open Big Diamond's 31st racing season this Monday, February 18, for a six day run at the Fairlane Village Mall is located just north of Pottsville, PA on Route 61.

Headlining the activities during the show will be the annual V&M Towing/Bair Wheel Repair Tire Changing Competition, now rescheduled to Tuesday evening, February 20, at 7 PM. The annual Georgie Stevenson Memorial Auction is also scheduled for Saturday, February 23, starting at 4PM.

The Fairlane Village Mall is also the home of Nasr Jewelers, the provider of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series by Dodge Modified champions' ring each year. They will be open throughout the week with items ideal for the absent-minded that need the perfect, late Valentine's Day gift as well as other race fans.

Cars confirmed for the show are the modifieds of Tim Fitzpatrick, Barry Readinger, Kyle Weiss and Bruce Williams, the sportsman cars of John Deatrich, Jr., Daryl Dissinger, Ken Eckert, Bill Moyer. Jr., and Steve Zimmerman, and the roadrunners of Chris Eckert, Shawn Fitzpatrick, Kevin Holland, Dave Miller and Corey Renninger. Other cars signed-up for the show are the limited sprint of Ryan Moyer, the super sportsman of Kirby Sites, the late model sportsman of Lauden Seigfried, and the micro-sprints of Joel Ankenbrant and Dillon Stein.

Barry Readinger's Modified was a late entry in the show. His beautiful, Bill Devine-owned 70D will be one of three TeoPro cars the team will utilize for NASCAR Weekly Racing Series by Dodge action at Big Diamond Raceway and Grandview Speedway this year. In fact, they will bring a newly-designed,"high-rack," Teo car to race at Big Diamond that the manufacturer feels may be a match for the 3/8th-mile oval.

Big Diamond Raceway 2002 schedules, rulebooks and NASCAR membership applications will be available at the show and completed applications with payments will be accepted.

Plans call for Big Diamond Raceway to open the on-track racing season on Sunday afternoon, April 7, at 2 o'clock. The modifieds, sportsman and roadrunners will be featured on the card. One week later, on April 14, the same schedule will be followed.

The next three Sundays, April 21, April 28 and May 5, will see the modifieds, sportsman and roadrunners go to the post at 4 PM. Then, on Friday, May 10, the regular weekly schedule kicks in with an 8 PM starting time for the remainder of the year.

Special divisions on the track's 2002 schedule are the United Racing Club 360 Sprints, the 410 Super Sprints, and the 358 Sprints.
