Holiday Sunday Specials yield Big Diamond Modified Triple Crown

Minersville, PA -- February 26 - Big Diamond Raceway has restored a Pennsylvania Modified racing tradition with the addition of the Memorial Day weekend Sunday Triple-20s program this year on May 30, at 7PM..

The Triple-20s join the Georgie Stevenson Memorial Twin-25s and the annual Coal Cracker National Championships to form the Big Diamond Modified "Sunday Triple Crown."

The Modified Triple-20s were originally made an annual Sunday Memorial Day Weekend classic by the John Wertz/Ken McMullen promotional team in the successful years of the now closed Penn National Speedway. Wertz will again be a part of this classic but now as the owner of the modified driven by Jeff Sechrist.

"John and Kenny had a great crowd and competitor draw with the Triple-20's," commented Big Diamond race director Jeff Gromis. "Many fans have often asked why this tradition was never picked-up. It is one of the most often received suggestions every year at Big Diamond so we decided in December to go forward with it on our 2004 schedule."

This NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series event will not only give rebirth to the Triple-20s but will also be unique with the total number of features on the card. Plans call for feature events for the Sportsman Modifieds and Roadrunners as well as Powder Puff features for the Modifieds, Sportsman Modifieds and Roadrunners to yield a total of 8 FEATURE EVENTS. Heats and consolations will be run for the Modifieds only. A number of Sportsman Modifieds will be pre-qualified and only one B-Main (or two, if field size requires) will precede their feature. The roadrunners and powder puff classes will be competing in features only.

As part of the Big Diamond Sunday Triple Crown all modified feature winners from this season's opening day through May 28 will be guaranteed starters for the May 30 Triple-20s. Likewise all feature winners from June 6 through July 2 will be guaranteed starters for the Georgie Stevenson Memorial Twin-25s on Sunday, July 4. Finally the overall top point earning driver from each of these first two Sunday Triple Crown race nights will be named guaranteed starters for the final Triple Crown race, the Coal Cracker Nationals on Sunday, September 5.

Big Diamond Raceway previews the 2004 season with the annual Big Diamond Car Show at the Fairlane Village Mall just north of Pottsville, PA on Route 61. The show runs from Monday, March 1, through Saturday, March 6. On the schedule during the week are the annual Bair Racing Wheel and Wheel Repair/V&M Towing Tire Changing Competition on Wednesday, March 3, at 7 PM, and the 8th annual Georgie Stevenson Memorial Charity Auction on Saturday, March 6 at 4 PM.

Numerous race-related and other items are in hand and ready for the Stevenson Auction, which this year is sponsored by the Gear Grinders Association. But more gift baskets, gift certificates, racing and other collectibles, panels from race cars, driver's suits or helmets and other items are still being sought. Chris Stevenson will be on hand on Sunday late afternoon as the cars enter the show and throughout the show to receive any additional items for the auction.
