BNS: Beech Ridge Kelly Moore Story

Scarborough, ME -- The Busch North Series, NASCAR Touring, competitors visited the Beech Ridge Motor Speedway Saturday evening for the running of the Primestar 150. Kelly Moore, driver of the LesCare Kitchens Pontiac, finished 30th, several laps down after an early race mishap. NASCAR and Busch honored Moore in pre-race actives for being the only competitor to start in all 200 Busch North Series standalone races. Bunk Sampson, Busch North Series Tour Director, presented Kelly with a banner signed by all the competitors, and he received a special award from longtime series sponsor Anheuser-Busch.

It was a special evening for the LesCare Kitchens/Moore Racing team, as their many friends and family members participated in activities at Moore's home track in Scarborough. "It's hard to believe its been 200 races, it just doesn't seem like it," Moore commented before the race. Over the past twelve seasons, Moore has put together impressive numbers, including 19 tour victories.

The team's diligent effort to earn their second victory of the season evaporated when Moore was sent spinning in turn four on lap 50. Bryan Wall made the initial contact with Moore, and then he quickly dove to the inside to avoid hitting Moore again. Bill Penfold, who was running behind Wall, was unable to stop in time, and slammed into the sliding racecar of Moore. This mishap sent both Moore and Penfold into the pits to repair their heavily damaged cars.

The LesCare Kitchens team lost 42 laps repairing the damage to the chassis and engine compartment. Moore resumed racing on lap 92 in an effort to gain as many championship points as possible. "Our car was working good, we would have definitely pitted on the first caution to make some adjustments," a dejected Moore stated. "Unfortunately, we were part of the mess that caused the first yellow." Brad Leighton outdueled Mike Olsen to take home his third win of 1999. The 30th place finished slid Moore down into the eighth position in the championship points battle, 229 points behind current point's leader Leighton.

a.. The Busch North Series will be making its annual visit to Jennerstown Speedway on Saturday June 19. Jennerstown has hosted at least one event every year since the tour started in 1987 and this weekend the track will showcase two of NASCAR's most exciting Touring Divisions, the Busch North Series and the Featherlite Modified Series.

b.. The LesCare Kitchens team will travel to Watkins Glen International the weekend of June 27 to compete in the Busch Series combination race.

c.. Ryan Moore also competed at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway this weekend. Moore, driver of the LesCare Kitchens Super Sportsman Pontiac, cut a tire down on the hot laps and had to pit on lap 2 to change his front right side tire. Moore finished the evening in the 15th spot but again earned a lot of respect from his fans and competitors after his return to the track. "We had a real good car, I was really running them down after the tire change," Moore said.
