NOTES OF INTEREST

* The 2001 edition of the Waterford 150 saw Mike Johnson come from 15th in the starting lineup to take the lead on lap 104 of a race marked by a long green flag segment in which most teams chose to pit for tires. Kelly Moore was second and Dennis Demers, who drew the pole and led 73 of the first 103 laps, was third. Brad Leighton and Kip Stockwell completed the top ten. Only Demers made the distance on one set of tires. Dale Shaw won the Bud Pole but finished seventh.

* Johnson averaged 65.045 miles per hour in 2001; a far cry from the Busch North Series inaugural at Waterford in 2000, which saw 79 laps of caution and a winning speed of 38.544 mph! Brad Leighton won that race after dueling with Dennis Demers in the closing laps.

* Waterford has been kind to Dennis Demers. He won his first Bud Pole here in 2000 with a clocking of 15.178 seconds, 79.082 miles per hour, which remains the Busch North Series track record at Waterford, and he owns second and third place finishes.

* Early-season point leader Matt Kobyluck of nearby Uncasville, Conn., is the only Waterford Speedbowl graduate competing regularly on the Busch North Series today. He started in the late model class at the' Bowl in 1993. His race shop is located within walking distance of the track.

* Waterford Speedbowl opened as a dirt track in April 1951, but was paved after less than a month of operation. It has run continuously as a paved track since May 1951. Waterford became a NASCAR Weekly Racing Series track in 2000, hosting both the Busch North Series and the Featherlite Modified Series.

STAT OF THE WEEK

Mike Olsen's early retirement from the Carquest 150 at Stafford ended a streak of 46 consecutive Busch North Series finishes, dating back to August 1999. The longest current running-at-finish streak belongs to Bryan Wall at 36 races. (Statistics courtesy of Rick DeBour, Busch North Scene.)
