EL CAJON, CA. A trio of familiar names are atop the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series standings as Cajon Speedway gets ready to host its eighth event of the season this Saturday night.

Defending champions Scott Brown and Matt Arnold sit in the number one spots in the Grand American modified and factory stock season long chase at the 3/8 mile paved oval. And in the street stocks, Eric Ferguson, the division champ back in 1997, sets the pace.

This Saturday night the Grand American modifieds, street stocks, and factory stocks will be back in action on the Gillespie Field pavement. The Legend Cars of California and the Super TT motorcycles will join them. Both of those groups will be making their first appearance of the season.

Race time is 6:45 pm. Qualifying runs start at 5:15 pm. The gates will open and practice will commence at 4:00 pm. Admission prices are $10 for adults on the east side and $9 on the west side. Kids from 6 --12 are only $3. Children under the age of 6 are free when accompanied by an adult.

There is an added incentive this year for the Grand American modified drivers at the track. Carpets Galore in El Cajon will pay out $1200 to the driver in that division who earns the most passing points this year. At Cajon each driver earns two points in the main event for each position improved from their original starting position. In the opener for the group two weeks ago, Scott Brown was the quick qualifier and then finished second to John Luecht in the 25-lap feature. That earned Brown 26 passing points; Mike Salm is second in that chase with 22 markers. Three drivers, Luecht, Jimmy Dickerson, and Mike Jackson, each has 16 markers.

The open wheeled G.A. modifieds will run another 25-lap feature this time around. The street stocks will also battle through 25 circuits. Twenty lap affairs are on tap for the legend cars and factory stocks. The Super TT motorcycles will be racing on a special course that will include part of the asphalt racing surface along with some dirt portions of the infield.
