Notes of Interest: Hometown driver, Mickey York would like nothing more than to give the hometown fans something special to cheer about as the NASCAR Goody's Dash Series travels to Caraway Speedway for the Yadkin Valley Chevrolet-Geo/Brigman Clinic 125. Since leaving the track as a regular competitor and Track Champion in 1977 to join up with the Dash Series, his successes at Caraway have been few and far between. But York's misfortune of late, has not stopped his hundreds of local fans from flooding to the speedway in support of their local hero. York remains cautiously optimistic about his chances for picking up his first Dash Series victory here at Caraway, and, his first NASCAR Goody's Dash Series win in more than two years. York and, fellow Dash racing veteran, Junior Miller, probably have more laps at this race track than all of the other Dash Series competitors, combined. Miller has enjoyed considerable success here in the modified events he has run here over the years, but he too, has yet to win here, in a NASCAR Goody's Dash Series race. In fact, not one of the entries received to date has ever won a Dash Series event here. So, at this moment, there's only one thing that's certain about the outcome of this race. That is, unless Dean Combs, Larry Hoopaugh, or J.V. Reins decides to come out of driving retirement, or, unless Phil Parsons, David Hutto or Jimmy Foster decides to forgo their scheduled Busch Grand National date to come race with us at Caraway, the winner of the Yadkin Valley Chevrolet-Geo/Brigman Clinic 125, will be making their first stop visit to victory lane in a NASCAR Goody's Dash Series race car. Will Hobgood's qualifying record of 18.137 sec. at 90.313 mph. is also expected to be broken at this event. Off season rules changes have dramatically improved the handling characteristics of these one hundred inch wheelbase race cars. As a result, in the first two short track events of the 1997 season, the old qualifying marks were, not only broken, they were crushed. The indication is, that this record breaking trend will continue throughout the season.
