CORNELIUS, NC (May 20, 2003) - Randy Humphrey's preparation for Lowe's Motor Speedway paid off by serving up a solid race weekend for the Randy Humphrey Racing Team.

"It has been a good year for us so far," says Humphrey. "We have finished in the top ten at all three races this year, which gives us a lot of confidence with where our program is headed."

The race at Lowe's was especially good for the team. Humphrey's #93 Eastwood Homes Pontiac entry qualified on the Bud Pole with an average speed of 152.992 mph. At the start of the race he was able to move out quickly and hold off an early challenge for the lead.

"Lowe's is our home track," he says. "And it was a real boost for us to do so well in qualifying here. We had hoped to get the pole at Daytona and missed our objective. Getting it here is sweet redemption for us."

"Our car was good all day. On the initial start I was able to get out and enjoy some clean air. But, there were a lot of other good cars out there with us. I knew from the get go that Robert Huffman was going to be tough to beat."

The race was slowed by six caution periods. "Lowe's is one of our toughest tracks. The Humpy bumps really tests your meddle and it keeps you on your toes the entire race, comments Humphrey."

Huffman made a dash underneath Humphrey in turns three and four to take the lead on lap 6 of the 56 lap event. Huffman would go on to take the win. For Humphrey it was a matter of staying in close contact with the leaders and trying to put his car in a position to make a run toward the end.

After several cautions the field lined up for what was expected to be the final two laps. Due to a late race caution the race was extended to accommodate a finish under the green flag. Most of the leaders were attempting to make it all the way without having to make a pit stop.

Humphrey was solidly in fourth as the field took the final green flag. As he stepped on the accelerator the fuel pressure went to zero and he lost power. He quickly tried to get his car out of the racing groove, but the cars were stacked up behind him. Several cars were not able to take evasive action soon enough and the machines of John Whaley, Allen Powell, Scott Weaver, and Mike Watts ended up crashing at the start/finish line.

Humphrey steered his car to the flat part of the track and wiggled it. The fuel pump found a few last drops and the car re-fired allowing Humphrey to salvage a ninth place finish.

"We are happy with that," Humphrey said. "We are third in the points and this is our best start ever. So, we just accept what happened and head on to South Boston."
