Dash series and Lowe''s Motor Speedway have long history

GOODY'S DASH SERIES AND LOWE'S MOTOR SPEEDWAY HAVE A LONG HISTORY By Bill Desmond

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. (May 11 2000) - Goody's Dash Series, NASCAR Touring competition is unique. Competing at Lowe's Motor Speedway is very unique. The two entities will come together for the 15th time on May 24 in the Tom Johnson Camping Center/Easy Care Vehicle Service Contracts 100.

Lowe's Motor Speedway has been a part of NASCAR's production sedan division for many years. From 1986 - 1989 the series carried title sponsorship in conjunction with Daytona International Speedway as the Charlotte/Daytona Dash Series. Referring to Charlotte Motor Speedway, which has been named Lowe's Motor Speedway.

"Lowe's Motor Speedway has been an integral part of the Goody's Dash Series for quite some time," commented Tom Deery, NASCAR vice president. "They have been instrumental in the success of this division over the years with sponsorship and outstanding events. Our competitors enjoy racing there and that gives stability to the series."

Not only can they come see their favorite NASCAR Winston Cup drivers qualify for the Coca-Cola 600, they can watch a fantastic race between some of the NASCAR stars of tomorrow."

"We have two superspeedway events each year on this series and racing under the lights at Lowe's Motor Speedway at speeds of 160 mph plus is awesome", stated three-time series champion Robert Huffman of Claremont, N. C. "That's why drivers keep coming back to this series with tracks like Daytona and Charlotte on the schedule with outstanding posted awards. They know they can compete here and participate in an outstanding event that receives a lot of exposure."

Joining Huffman, the defending champion of this event, will be two-time series champion (1987 - 1988) Larry Caudill, 1991 series champion Johnny Chapman, 1992 series champion Mickey York and 1995 series champion David Hutto. In winning his title in 1995, Hutto became the youngest driver in NASCAR history to win a touring series championship.

Along with these champions many younger drivers will enjoy the thrill of competing on Lowe's Motor Speedway 1.5-mile oval. The Hobgood brothers, Jake and Justin, Tommy Ballard, Zach Brewer, Eric Van Cleef, Bryan Gandy, Greg Goodell, B. J. Mackey, Joey Miller, Roger Sawyer, Cam Strader, Kelly Sutton, Brandon Ward, Angie Wilson and Ricky Woodward will join veterans Danny Bagwell, Ricky Bryant, Ned Combs, George Crenshaw, Edward Howell, Mike Watts and others trying to add their name to the prestigious honor of winning at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

Mike Swaim Jr., holds the qualifying record for this series at Lowe's Motor Speedway with a lap time of 34.606 Sec. (156.042 mph), set in 1998 while 1997 race winner Christian Elder established a new race record of 118.197 mph.

The 67-lap event (100 miles) will be the second nationally televised event for the series in 2000. Fox Sports South will show the race on a tape -delayed basis on Saturday, May 27 at 11:00 AM ET.
