HOWELL TO SUB FOR INJURED CRENSHAW

Lakeland, Fla. (Fevruary 22, 1999) Veteran NASCAR Goody's Dash driver Edward Howell of Lakeland, Florida, will drive the Crenshaw Motorsports Pontiac in the next Dash race this season, set for April 24 at Hickory, N.C.

George Crenshaw, who broke his right leg in the season-opening race Feb. 12 at Daytona International Speedway, made the announcement at his race shop in south Lakeland, Florida.

"It's a great opportunity for me," Howell said. "It's a shame it is under these conditions, but I will do my best for George and Marti Crenshaw, the team and sponsors."

Marti is George's wife.

"Continuity for Crenshaw Motorspoprts is very important to me, and Edward Howell is the right driver for this car," Crenshaw said.

Howell, 44, has won four races on the Goody's Dash series and finished in the top five 11 times and the top 10 a total of 14 times. He has started from the pole twice. Howell finished fourth in the seasons point race in 1994 and was the winner of the NASCAR Goody's Dash Sportsmanship Award that year. Howell also was inducted into the Valvoline "Say No To Drugs Team," joining Al Unser Jr. and the late Neil Bonnett in 1988.

Howell's last NASCAR Dash victory was at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway on June 25, 1994, and he has 29 career starts. Since that season, he has driven cars in varioius series part time.

Not only is this a good move, but a great choice.
