WHITT'S ON THE 'ROAD' TO RECOVERY

For the first time in his career, Cole Whitt enters the realm of road racing. Sure, he's driven tiny shifter karts before on tracks that turn left and right, but Saturday's NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race at Lime Rock Park will be his first in a big, bulky stock car.

"I'm jumping off into the deep end of the pool once again," joked driver No. 84. "Yeah, it's going to be tough. Road racing in a stock car is something new that I have no idea how to do. But I'm up for the challenge."

Whitt's coming off a 26th-place finish Friday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. He never had the chance to contend after a rear gear pinion problem sent him behind the wall not long after the green flag. After that, the No. 84 Red Bull Toyota team treated the New England 125 as a test session for when the series returns to New Hampshire in September. With only five races remaining in the season, Whitt ranks eighth in the championship standings - 151 points behind leader Ryan Truex.

"We are all about go, go go. No holds barred," Whitt said. "There's nothing for us to lose. We can fall back (in points), but to me there's no difference between second and last. We're going to go as hard as we can and try to win all of these races."
