CAR QUEST SPRING SIZZLER / BILLY WOODS FAST FACTS

This Week's Mission: The CarQuest Spring Sizzler at Stafford (CT) Motor Speedway one of the premiere events on the 1998 Featherlite Modified Series schedule. For Billy Woods and the Woods Machine &Tool/A.W. Miller Racing Team, it's the chance to continue the fast pace that the team set in the previous two Featherlite Modified Series events at Thompson (CT) and Martinsville (VA). Following last week's 11th place finish at Martinsville Speedway, Woods is well aware of the task facing the Nichols (NY) based team and says, "The new track surface obviously has us concerned. We'll have to get the car dialed in during practice and see if we can have another strong qualifying effort this weekend and another good showing for Woods Machine and Tool and A.W. Miller Technical Sales." The 1997 edition of the CarQuest Spring Sizzler saw Woods finish 19th after beginning the event from the 27th starting spot.

Last Weekend - (Goody's 200, Martinsville VA): The pilot of the #51 drew an early number for time trials, taking the track fourth out of 46 competitors. Although his lap of 20.004 seconds was a solid time among the early drivers taking time, the track became faster as qualifying progressed and Woods was forced to use a provisional starting spot to start the 200 lap event. The Woods Machine & Tool/A.W. Miller Technical Sales Chevrolet began the nationally televised event from the 29th position on the grid. The race ran at a lightning fast pace, and despite going a lap down during a long stretch of green on lap 53 , Woods was able to break into the top 20 as the result of a lap 81 caution. Nearing the midpoint of the race, the #51 spun as the result of contact by Tommy Cravenho Jr., but Woods was able to regain control and progress through the pack. Woods was able to stay out of trouble the rest of the race to register an 11th place finish in the event won by Mike Ewanitsko.

Up Next: The Featherlite Modified Series will be back in action on Sunday, May 17th at Nazareth Speedway in Pennsylvania. For more information on the happenings at Roger Penske's one-mile facility, contact
