Foundation Also Unveils Sam Bass-Designed NASCAR Day Pin
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 9, 2006) -- Deep inside the "World Center of Racing," The NASCAR Foundation officially kicked off NASCAR Day 2007 by announcing May 18 as the date for this year's fundraising celebration. Joining NASCAR Vice President Jim Hunter at Daytona International Speedway was artist Sam Bass, who unveiled this year's NASCAR Day pin that he specially designed for the Foundation.
NASCAR Day, an annual, charitable celebration of the spirit of NASCAR fans, last year raised more than $1.3 million, with 98,000 pins sold online at NASCAR.com and more than 3,000 company locations participating all across the country.
"The fourth annual NASCAR Day promises to be even bigger, even better, than the first three years," said NASCAR First Lady Betty Jane France. "And of course, first and foremost, we have to thank the fans for that. Their support is vital -- and very much appreciated."
Representing the drivers and the many driver charities that benefit from the fundraising efforts of The NASCAR Foundation and NASCAR Day in particular was NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series driver Kasey Kahne. Kahne, driver of the No. 09 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge, is one of many drivers who has a charitable foundation that directly benefits from the success of NASCAR Day.
"The NASCAR Foundation has been a very welcome addition to our industry philanthropy efforts," Kahne said. "The resources and support that The NASCAR Foundation has provided to driver foundations, such as the Kasey Kahne Foundation, have really helped these organizations successfully fulfill their missions. On behalf of the Kasey Kahne Foundation, I am glad to support The NASCAR Foundation, and I urge our entire community of race fans to support NASCAR Day by purchasing a pin and volunteering on NASCAR Day."
Bass' artwork was intended to showcase and celebrate the NASCAR community joining together to share in this most worthy of causes.
"I am extremely proud and honored to have had my artwork selected for use on the 2007 NASCAR Day pin and promotional materials," said Bass, NASCAR's officially-licensed artist. "The NASCAR Foundation does so much good and is so supportive of charitable organizations that help so many in need across the nation. I have had the chance to work with the Foundation many times over the years and have seen first-hand the tremendous positive impact it has made."
Fans interested in participating in NASCAR Day can purchase a pin, sign up his or her company and even purchase NASCAR Day apparel by going to www.nascar.com/foundation. NASCAR fans, corporations, schools and organizations across the country are encouraged to donate $5 and all participants receive a collectible 2007 NASCAR Day lapel pin for their donation.
