Grandview Speedway Saturday Results 1999-09-04

BECHTELSVILLE, PA SEPTEMBER 4, 1999 . . . Young Glenn Strunk managed to hold off the strong challenge, in the closing laps, of his older brother Jeff to win the 30-lap Budweiser NASCAR Modified stock car race at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night. The win was the first of the season for the Bechtelsville racer as he became the 12th different feature winner out of 23 modified features offered this season at the one-third-mile, banked clay oval. And it was Junior Grebe winning the 20-lap Budweiser NASCAR Late Model feature race, his second win of the season. Grebe held off Randy Stoudt in a battle for the win. Rain started to fall as the checkered flag was displayed by veteran starter Bruce Harmony. Sponsors were thanked along with fans and crews while champagne corks popped in victory lane as Terry Meitzler was crowned the NASCAR Winston Racing Series Modified champion. Jeff Teets was on top in the final NASCAR Late Model standings. And Jeff Strunk, earning $15,000 out of a total $40,000, was honored as the Motor Truck Equipment Co.Kenworth Cummins PA NASCAR Modified Champion in a series that included modified events at Big Diamond Raceway and Grandview Speedway. Bill Gensler set the early pace in the 30-lap modified feature. Never a feature winner Gensler was able to hold on to the top spot for seven laps before Glenn Strunk moved the Keith Harring Kenworth Cummins modified in front of the pack. Once in front Strunk was able to hold off Ron Haring and others as he lead lap after lap. In the final laps older brother Jeff Strunk moved into second spot and was right on the tail of Glenn when the checkered flag fell. Glenn Strunk earned $2,200 for his winning efforts. Jeff Strunk (Bethel) finished second followed by Ron Haring (Allentown), a strong effort by Shawn Reimert (Oley) and Kerry Kratz (Bechtelsville). In the 20-lap NASCAR Late Model feature Scott Miley was in front on the first lap. Junior Grebe (Boyertown) took control on the second lap and stayed in front for the balance of the event. Randy Stoudt (Pottstown), who had to settle for second, battled for the win in the final laps. Sam Schlossberg was impressive with a third place finish followed by champion Jeff Teets (Coplay) and John Durling (Reading). Dean Stoudt, a multi time champion, was trying for another title in the late model division. After going through a gall bladder operation in the early part of the week Stoudt was eager to go. However an early race incident with a slower car put him to the rear of the field and basically eliminated any chance to another title. Stoudt did come back to finish sixth. Qualifying heats for the NASCAR Modifieds went to Kevin Hartnett, Shawn Reimert, Ron Haring, Kenny Gilmore and Ken Lindaberry. More than 60 cars were on hand. The consolations went to Meme DeSantis, Terry Meitzler and Craig VonDohren. Ron Haring picked up $380 in the Quigley Motors Cash Dash. Sam Schlossberg, Randy Stoudt and Bill Henning were tops in late model qualifying events while Terry Snyder won the consolation. It is expected that Billy Pauch will be taking part in the THP Properties Freedom 76 Classic on Saturday, September 11, 7 p.m. at Grandview Speedway. Pauch is a five time winner of the race and will be looking to take home at least $20,000 if he can win again. Duane Howard, a former winner, will be trying for another win as will Craig VonDohren, Donny Erb, Tom Mayberry while Jeff Strunk will be looking for his first win in this classic. Spectator gates will open at 1:30 p.m., advance ticket holders are allowed in 30 minutes earlier. Pre-race autograph sessions, race car displays, music and driver interviews will start at 3 p.m. Eight qualifying heats are planned along with the Keystone Pretzel Bakery Cash Dash paying $1,000 to win. And the last chance to qualify will be in the Cheers Tavern Minuteman 20. Rain date is Sunday, September 12 with same schedule of events. The season finale is planned for Saturday, September 18, 5 p.m. with a tripleheader show featuring the modifieds, sportsman and late models.
