(West Salem, WI - May 6, 2000) Kevin Nuttleman is getting tired of finishing second. Three features have been run in 2000, and Nuttleman has come away with three second-place finishes. On Saturday night, it was Mark Lamoreaux who took everything the defending champ had to offer, and not only rebuffed his attempt to crack through to Victory Lane, but pulled away down the stretch for a three-length win in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Late Model feature.

The win marks Lamoreaux's first win since May of 1999, but the second-place finish for Nuttleman was enough to catapault him by both Steve Carlson and Paul Proksch and into first-place in the points standings.

Mike Belling jumped to the lead early, as he moved by rookie Todd Korish at the start. Lamoreaux started third behind Korish, but was able to slip to the high side of the track and get around Korish on lap five, before the first caution flew on lap six. That yellow flew as Charlie Menard broke loose coming out of turn four, and sent careening down the frontstrech, collecting Kraig Burrows and Todd Oliver, while brushing several other cars.

Lamoreaux went to work on Belling quickly on the restart, getting by on lap ten as the two cars went into three. Further back in the pack, Nuttleman had worked his way into the top five by lap eight, and battled Brad Powell for fourth for several laps, before getting by on lap 13. One lap later, he was by Korish and into third, and closing on Belling.

The second yellow flew n lap 16, as Paul Proksch and Steve Holzhausen came together on the backstretch, with both cars ending up in the wall. Both cars drove away, but they dropped from the top ten to finishes in the back ten.

Nuttleman quickly got by Belling, and came on on the outside of Lamoreaux on lap 16. He battled evenly with the 26 car for four laps, pulling slightly in front on several occasions, bu couldn't make the pass. By lap 20, Lamoreaux retook conrol, and started pulling away from the Wehrs Chevy Monte Carlo as he posted the win

Nuttleman was second, followed by Powell, fast timer Tony Bagstad, Belling, Korish and Brent Kirchner. Tom Carlson, Kurt Thicke and Tim Hagen rounded out the top five.

Frank Doherty took the B-Main, while qualifying heats went to Bill Niles and J. Herbst. Proksch and Todd Oliver took the Odd and Even Bud Dashes, and Bagstad set his first-ever late model quick time with a 20.300 clocking.

It was prom night in La Crosse, and many high school students asked dad to use the car to get their date to the prom. Car problems forced Jon Barrette to ask his dad Ralph for the keys to his race car, and Jon came home with the feature win, leading all 15 laps of the Ray Hutson Chevrolet Grand National Sportsman feature.

Barette took the top spot in a battle with Sam Andersen on the opening lap, then held off Randy Steinhoff for ten laps to take the win. Steinhoff was second, followed by Tony Ciano, Corey Jankowski and Dan Gilster.

Gilster was also the fast timer, clicking off a lap at 23.907 seconds. He finished fourth behind Rick Shisler in one Bud Dash, while Greg Scheck took the second dash win. Heat wins went to John Towner, Don Henderson and Dennis Osthoff, with Henderson and Osthoff advancing into the feature. Dan Gallagher made his way into the feature by taking the B-Main over Mike Campbell. Dan Secor took the lead from Chris Vinson on lap eight, and earned his first feature win of the season by holding off Adam Degenhardt in the United Auto Supply Thunderstox feature. Degenhardt finished second, followed by Rob Curran, Branden Berg, Kelly Schendel and Jason Bolster.

Vinson, Secor and John Olson took the heat wins, Bolster won the Bud Dash, and Dean Ashbacher came away the victor in the B-Main. After rain washed out their opener two weeks ago, the Hornets were back in full force, and their 53 cars helped the speedway tie the track record for most cars competing in a Saturday night show. The record was set two weeks ago when the Hornets first appeared for 2000.

The Hornets ran two features, with Chris Hartley and Rick Schermerhorn coming away with the feature wins. Heat wins went to James Reed, Schermerhorn and Clint Mohn.
