Harvick Edges Spencer in Lanier National Speedway Match Race

BRASELTON, GA (October 25, 2003) - Kevin Harvick beat Jimmy Spencer by six inches to win Saturday night's 20-lap Winston Cup match race at Lanier National Speedway.

Split into two 10-lap sprints, Kerry Earnhardt won the first race by narrowly edging Harvick, Spencer, and Michael Waltrip.

After inverting the field for the final 10-lap dash, Harvick and Spencer spent much of the second event side by side and swapping the lead. Spencer passed Harvick for the lead on lap six.

Harvick reassumed the lead on lap seven and held on by inches at the checkered flag. Earnhardt finished one-car length behind in third while Waltrip collected fourth.

Prior to the match race, thousands of fans received autographs from the foursome. After the match race, the drivers were carried around the track in convertibles and pickup trucks.

Dahlonega's Curt Britt polished off his championship season by sitting on the pole and leading all 100 laps of Saturday night's Team Ford of Marietta feature event. Rob Young finished a distant second.

"Man this is one awesome ride," Britt said of his No. 38 truck. "We really haven't touched any nuts or bolts on it all season."

J.L. Tullis sat on the pole and led all 40 laps of the Simpson's Trucking & Grading Sportsman feature. Tullis held off a furious charge on the start and for the final two laps from eventual second place finisher Mike Bruce.

Lanier National Speedway is located just northeast of Atlanta on Interstate 85 at exit 129.
