LAS VEGAS - While Dale Earnhardt Jr. was winning The Winston at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C. Saturday night, Las Vegas race fans were at Las Vegas Motor Speedway's 3/8-mile paved oval watching the top area racers in NASCAR Weekly Racing Series competition.

Dick Cobb captured his first victory of the season after he stormed passed Joe Kirsch on lap 25 of the 40-lap NASCAR Late Model main event. Chuck Trickle had challenged Cobb several times in the caution-filled race, but finished third when Barry Bradshaw, who started last, passed Trickle at the checkered flag. Rick Cobb, the winner's son, finished fourth and George Antill took fifth place.

In the Grand American Modifieds, a part of the Exide ShorTrack Series by NASCAR, T.J. Clark took the win over Larry Gerchaman. Clark, who also has raced in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, said, "The guys were pretty good tonight. I am fortunate that everything went my way. It is my wife's birthday. This one is for you honey."

Kyle Busch finished third in the Grand American Modified division but visited victory lane in the Hitchin' Post/Exiss Legends division. Busch took the lead on lap six of the 20-lap main event. His teammate Jason Allen finished second with Tyree Brown in tow.

"Every night I have to thank my crew," said Busch. "They do the most work. I also have to thank the fans for sticking around. You guys are the real race fans."

Others winners were Al Dejoria in the Chargers division, Casey Kingsland in Mini Stocks action and Justin Johnson in the Bandoleros main event.
