NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge True Value Mechanic Of The Year winners announced.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (August 29, 2002) - The votes are in. Based on a balloting process among NASCAR members nationwide, this year's NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge regional True Value Mechanic of the Year award winners have been chosen, including six-time winner Darrell Poe and three-time winner Bob Korn.

Each regional winner will receive $2,000 and a trip to the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge awards banquet Nov. 2 in Nashville. Each of the regional award winners is also nominated for the national True Value Mechanic of the Year award, which will be announced at the banquet. The national winner will receive an additional $5,000 cash award.

"We're delighted to present the True Value Mechanic of the Year awards and recognize the mechanics and crew members that make this series happen," said Steve O'Donnell, NASCAR director of series marketing."The hard work and commitment of volunteer crew members, friends and family members is what makes the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge so special."

Atlantic Region - Darrell Poe, Bear Creek, N.C.

Poe, 50, received his sixth regional award. An expert engine builder, Poe's engines supply power for many racers in the region and at his home track, Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, N.C. Poe was the 2000 national True Value Mechanic of the Year award winner.

Heartland Region - Brian Nuttleman, Rice Lake, Wis.

Nuttleman, 44, is the chief mechanic for two drivers - Charlie Menard and Andy Burgess - in the Kwik Trip Late Model Division at LaCrosse (Wis.) Fairgrounds Speedway. Nuttleman's younger brother, Kevin, was a 1989 NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge regional champion.

Midwest Region - Troy Baker, South Sioux City, Iowa

Baker, 38, works with Tom Love in the Charger Division at Park Jefferson Speedway in Jefferson, S.D. Love is the division's points leader and, with Baker's help, is seeking his first track championship. Baker and Love have been friends since their high school days and have raced together for many of those years.

New England Region - Chris Turbush, Riverhead, N.Y.

Turbush, 26, received the New England Region True Value Mechanic of the Year award for his efforts at Riverhead (N.Y.) Raceway. Turbush is the crew chief on his father's car in the Charger Division. Their team, which also includes help from Turbush's mother and two brothers, recorded a victory this season.

Northeast Region - Bob Korn, Miamisburg, Ohio

Korn, 75, captured his third consecutive True Value Mechanic of the Year award. Korn maintains the No. 72 Late Model driven by Eugene Chase at Kil-Kare Speedway in Xenia, Ohio. With Korn's expertise, Chase has driven to three top-five finishes this season.

Northwest Region - John King, Roy, Wash.

King, 48, is the top mechanic for driver Eric Tibbitts at South Sound Speedway in Tenino, Wash. With King's help under the hood, Tibbitts is third in the Late Model Super Stock point standings at South Sound. King also earned a regional True Value Mechanic of the Year award in 1994.

Southeastern Coastal Region - Andy Williams, Jacksonville, Fla.

Andy Williams, 36, was named True Value Mechanic of the Year in the Southeastern Coastal Region for his efforts with five-time track champion Chuck Chitty at Jax Raceways in Jacksonville, Fla. Williams and Chitty have recorded four victories and 15 top-five finishes this season in Jax Raceways' Dirt Late Model division.

Sunbelt Region - Gene Kawahata, Clovis, Calif.

In addition to maintaining a Toyota Sedan entry driven by his wife, Shannon, 45-year old Kawahata builds engines for several teams at Madera (Calif.) Speedway.
